Hughes, Warren handle Mundelein

Jordyn Hughes scored a game-high 21 points, and Warren's girls basketball team defeated Mundelein 47-33 in a semifinal of the Class 4A Buffalo Grove regional on Tuesday night.

Kaylen Dickson added 15 points for top-seeded Warren (23-6), which advances to Thursday's 7 p.m. championship game against No. 8 Prospect. It was the Blue Devils' third win in as many games against Mundelein this season.

No. 16 Mundelein (11-20) was led by Morgan Frank's 15 points.

Vernon Hills 60, North Chicago 26: At Antioch, the Cougars ousted the No. 18 seed to advance to a Class 3A regional final for the eighth year in a row.

Kayla Caudle had 9 points and 16 rebounds in three quarters for No. 2 Vernon Hills (18-10), which will play in Thursday's 7 p.m. regional final against No. 7 Lakes.

Piper Bedell and Julia Neary also scored 9 points for the Cougars, while Nicole Pieper and Mackenzie Mahler (6 rebounds) each had eight.

Pieper sank a pair of 3-pointers and Daniella Jarrell (4 points) also made a 3 in the opening quarter in helping Vernon Hills build a 14-7 advantage. The Cougars got a 3-pointer from Bedell in the second quarter and took a 31-10 lead into halftime.

Neary and Cassie Pappano had second-half 3-pointers for Vernon Hills, which had 13 players score.

Dejah Smith had 8 points and 6 rebounds for North Chicago, which also got 7 points and 8 rebounds from Zyasia Johnson.

Wauconda 52, Woodstock 37: At Wauconda, Allie Tylka scored a career-high 34 points for the host Bulldogs in the Class 3A regional semifinal.

No. 8 Wauconda (14-13) will face top-seeded St. Viator in the championship game at 7 p.m. Thursday.

Grayslake Central 50, Barrington 45: At Zion-Benton, the fifth-seeded Rams pulled out the win in their Class 4A regional semifinal.

Grayslake Central (22-7) will play No. 4 Fremd in Thursday's 7 p.m. regional final.

Rosie Drevline scored 17 points and Kate Bullman added 13 for Grayslake Central, which stretched its winning streak to eight games.
