Girls bowling: Warren's success carries over in NSC repeat

Perhaps there's another strong run ahead for this Warren's girls bowling team.

The Blue Devils, a state qualifier last year, extended that momentum to this year's conference race in claiming the North Suburban Conference title on Friday.

Warren posted a 903 in its final game to beat surging Libertyville's 843, which was enough to win 5,281-5,259 in the 5-team tournament at Lakeside Recreational Lanes in Mundelein.

The Blue Devils had already won the regular-season dual meet part of the schedule and earned the NSC crown for a second straight year.

"We just made our spares," Warren coach KC Lange said. "It had more remnants, like we had two years ago. Spares are what this game is about. People forget about that. Strikes are great, but they come from throwing the ball well. It's all about the spares, and it's teamwork. This team had to fight through some adversity. They persevered and they responded."

Warren started out slowly in its opening game before coming back strong.

Maggie Faje led Warren with 1,135 and placed third. The other Blue Devils' bowlers were Hayley Gregerson (1,112), Brianna Haith (1,100), Amanda Yoder (1,072), Linsey Jante (613, five games) and Maddison Zeni (128).

Katie Feisl of Libertyville was the individual champion with a six-game total of 1,170. She beat out Lake Zurich's Allison O'Hara (1,150).

"Honestly, I really didn't know this was going to happen," Feisl said. "I guess I was hitting my mark and the spot. So it just worked out for me. It hasn't happened for me all season. I just tried to be consistent, and the team was picking me up all day."
