Cohn hits the boards to bank York win at Glenbard West

Even as Nick Kosich knocked down a flurry of 3-pointers at the start of the fourth quarter, York's bench couldn't stop buzzing about the first one.

And not because of Kosich's sweet swish.

On the opening possession of the period, the Dukes got five looks at the basket thanks to a barrage of offensive rebounds by Erik Cohn. Kosich eventually sank a 3 to key a run that carried the Dukes to Saturday's 64-57 West Suburban Silver boys basketball victory over Glenbard West in Glen Ellyn.

Kosich scored 9 of his team-high 18 points during a 14-3 run at the start of the fourth quarter, a run that included a Nathan Shockey 3-pointer and culminated in a Cohn dunk off a steal.

Even though a 12-point advantage dwindled after a 9-0 Hilltoppers run, York (14-8, 4-3) held on.

"Erik's three or four offensive rebounds, that was huge," Kosich said. "That was bigger than any shots we made in the fourth. I think that really gave us the momentum. We never looked back from there. Even after they called time out, we were still yelling at Erik about that."

Up to that point in the fourth quarter, neither side could get any separation. York's biggest lead in the first three quarters was 5 points, and it was 6 points for Glenbard West (11-8, 3-5). Most of the action was highlighted by 10 lead changes and two ties.

Evan Taylor scored a game-high 21 points for Glenbard West, but York's balance - especially on the perimeter - was a difference-maker.

"They have so many kids who can shoot the ball, it makes it a tough matchup," said Glenbard West coach Tim Hoder. "But Kosich hit that one on the play with the multiple rebounds, and that really ignited him. We just had trouble bouncing back from that play. We couldn't get over the hump."

Angelo Martucci scored 17 points for York, while Cohn had 9 points and Shockey and Sam Walsh pitched in 7 points. Nick Dwyer hit four 3-pointers while scoring 14 points for Glenbard West. Caden Phillips overcame foul trouble to add 9 points.

"We knew it was going to be this kind of game," said York coach Vince Doran. "It was just a great effort, especially in the fourth quarter. This league is just so competitive. It's like this every single night."
