Metea Valley's Rank earns Daily Herald MVP honors

Metea Valley senior guard Holden Rank has earned Daily Herald MVP honors for his recent high school boys basketball performances.

Holden Rank, Metea Valley: The 5-foot-10 senior guard totaled 47 points in a pair of wins including a personal high of 32 points with eight 3-pointers in an 82-63 DuPage Valley Conference victory at Glenbard North. Overall Rank went 11 of 19 on 3s and 16 of 25 from the floor. He added 8 steals, 5 assists and 5 rebounds.

Keenon Cole, Streamwood: This 6-foot-7 forward scored 13 points against Palatine and 13 more against Mundelein as the Sabres won twice on the Martin Luther King Jr holiday to reach 10 wins, besting last year's total of 8. Later in the week the junior scored a team-best 24 points to lead Streamwood (11-12) to its fourth straight triumph, a 47-42 win at Hoffman Estates.

James Connolly, Grayslake North: With the game on the line, the three-year varsity forward delivered. He then proved clutch again in the Knights' next game. His putback at the buzzer gave the Knights a 58-56, overtime win over Richmond-Burton. Four nights later, the Saint Mary's University-bound senior hit a long 3-pointer with 5.2 seconds left to lift the Knights to a 45-44 win over Grayslake Central.

Ryan Martin, Fremd: Not long ago, Fremd was mired in a four-game losing streak. Martin, a senior forward, played a big part in reversing that trend by scoring a team-high 13 points in a 45-33 win against Hoffman Estates on Friday and following up with a game-best 22 points in a 57-53 Saturday victory at Bartlett.
