Lakes adjusts, tops Grayslake North

Lakes' girls basketball team made some changes this week in practice, and those changes helped lead to a Northern Lake County Conference win.

The Eagles earned a 42-34 victory over Grayslake North on Thursday.

"I'm really happy how our girls adjusted to some of the new things we threw at them this week to challenge them to be better players," Lakes coach Brian Phelan said. "We played really well in the first quarter, and North played a great second quarter.

"I thought we played a tremendous third quarter, our defense played really well all second half."

Paule Ceneac and Sara Smith led a balanced Lakes attack, scoring 9 points apiece.

Lakes is now 11-13 on the season and 5-3 in the NLCC.

Grayslake North, which won the first meeting between the two teams, drops to 7-13 overall and 4-4 in the NLCC.

Antioch 57, Wauconda 49: Antioch got out to a 19-4 first-quarter lead and was up 20 points at halftime.

That lead helped the Sequoits survive being out-scored by Wauconda 22-10 in the fourth quarter.

Piper Foote topped Antioch with 15 points, including three 3-pointers. Rachel Phillips added 11 points and 13 rebounds.

For visiting Wauconda, which had won the first meeting between the two teams, got double-figures out of three players. Allie Tylka had 13 points on two 3-pointers while Elise Deaver had 11 points and Kiley Szmadja had 10 points.

Antioch improves to 9-12 (4-4 Northern Lake County Conference) while Wauconda drops to 9-10 (3-5 NLCC).

Round Lake 44, Harvard 24: Round Lake got a big nonconference road win at Harvard.

Giselle Raygoza scored 13 points, including three 3-pointers to lead Round Lake, which improves to 6-14 on the season.

Hannah Brooks added 10 points for the Panthers while teammates Yamileth Lopez and Allie Ramirez set the tone on defense.
