St. Charles North upends Bloom

Cade Callaghan scored 19 points Thursday night to lead the St. Charles North boys basketball team to a 64-40 win over Bloom in the opening round of the Pontiac Holiday Tournament.

Erik Larson added 13 points and Kyle King had 10 for the North Stars (8-3), who play top-seeded Simeon in Friday's quarterfinals.

Burlington Central 73, King 64 (OT): Zach Schutta scored 26 points and Patrick Mayfield added 22 for the Rockets, who advanced to the semifinals of the Plano Christmas Classic with this win. Michael Kalusa chipped in 19 points for BC, which will play Streator in Friday's semis.

Elgin 59, Sycamore 46: Elgin advanced to the consolation title game of the E.C. Nichols Tournament at Marengo behind 14 points from John Fortmann and 12 from Michael Weatherburn. The Maroons (3-8) will play Wauconda at 1:30 p.m. Friday.

Aurora Christian 47, Annawan 36: At the State Farm Classic in Bloomington, Brendon Shaw had 10 points to lead the Eagles (11-0) to the win. Owen Landwehr added 9 points for AC and Ben Buresh had 9.

Marmion 47, Hampshire 32: Tommy Surges had 11 points while Mick Sullivan added 10 points and 11 rebounds to lead the Cadets (6-8) at the Chuck Dayton Holiday Classic in DeKalb. Marcus Lazar scored 8 points with Collin Woods and Justin Anderson adding 7 each to lead Hampshire (2-8).

Huntley 60, Belvidere North 53: Also at the Dayton, Uchenna Egekeze (9 rebounds) and Davis Pasco had 20 points each to lead Huntley (2-8) to the win.

Streamwood 61, Lakes 42: Keenon Cole struck for 27 points as the Sabres (7-8) won their final game of the Hinkle Holiday Classic at Jacobs. Nik Sinik added 11 points for Streamwood.

Addison Trail 47, Cary-Grove 44: Frank Jakubicek scored 19 points for Cary-Grove (5-8) at Jacobs' Hinkle Holiday Classic.

Vernon Hills 47, Dundee-Crown 41: Jordan Hairston (15 points) and Gabe Bergeron (14) led D-C (6-5) at the Wheeling Wildcat Hardwood Classic.

St. Edward 64, Phoenix Military 40: AJ Franklin hit for 36 points and Will Gaston added 10 to lead the Green Wave (11-3) into the consolation title game at the ICCP/Westmont tournament.

ACC 51, Argo 42: At the East Aurora tournament, Cameron Kalmas led Aurora Central with 18 points. Kyle Czerak added 11 for the Chargers (5-6).

Westminster Christian wins 2: At the Christian Liberty Shootout, Westminster Christian defeated Christian Liberty 63-51, a game in which the Warriors' Jordan Warrener scored his 1,000th career point. Westminster (11-1) defeated Morgan Park Academy 67-34.
