Boys swimming: Rolling Meadows sinks Buffalo Grove

The Rolling Meadows boys swim team got a 1-2 finish in the 100-yard backstroke from freshman Lukas Slifierz and senior Jack Keeley late in Friday's dual meet against Buffalo Grove to pick up a 101-85 victory in a Mid-Suburban East divisional opener.

Slifierz won the backstroke in 57.46, with Keeley in second with a lifetime-best 59.38.

Another key for the Mustangs was a 1-2-3 finish in the 100 fly with Jake Pors (57.53), Andrew Tavares and Jacob Hardt.

Buffalo Grove had a double winner in Daniel Verdico, tops in the 500 free (5:04.22) and 100 breast (1:03.70).

Rolling Meadows senior Josh Dellorto was the winner in both the 200 free (1:48.48) and 100 free (48.74).

Buffalo Grove's Korie Morris won the 50 free (24.50), and the Bison got a 1-2 finish in diving from Ben Goldberg (212.00) and Evan Nguyen (198.05).

Transportation challenges for both teams made for a late start at Elk Grove, but that didn't seem to affect the performances.

"Once the meet got going, it was so intense," said Rolling Meadows coach Monika Chiappetta. "Lots of back and forth racing from each team. Great team spirit on both sides, and everyone stepped up to race."

Palatine d. Conant: Visiting Conant got off to a winning start against MSL West competition by pulling out a 96-90 decision.

The Cougars won the medley and 200 freestyle relays and got a key 1-2-3 finish in diving from Kyle Jones (209.95), Caleb Savoy (203.55) and Jesse Meyrick (171.75).

Conant junior Justin Lim won the 200 IM (2:08.91) and the 100 fly (54.11) and had legs on both winning relays. Palatine won seven of the 11 swimming races, but the Cougars used superior depth to gain the advantage.

Palatine had a pair of double individual winners in senior Sean O'Brien and sophomore Stefan Filip. O'Brien was tops in the 100 free (51.79) and 100 back (58.93), and Filip won the 200 free (1:55.58) and 500 free (5:17.18).

Pirates sophomore Christian Snyder won the 50 free in 24.33, and junior teammate Noah Chon edged Conant's Dylan Pokorny in a terrific race in the 100 breast, 1:07.24-1:07.28.
