Blackhawks place Crawford on injured reserve, call up Berube
Corey Crawford is one of the main reasons the Blackhawks have managed to play winning hockey this season, but the team will be without perhaps its best player for at least seven days after he was placed on injured reserve Friday.
Crawford made 31 saves in a 4-3 overtime loss to Dallas on Thursday, and played the entire game. The Hawks were off Friday and likely will provide an update Saturday before playing at Dallas.
Crawford (11-7-2) is seventh in the NHL with a 2.29 goals-against average and shares fourth with a .930 save percentage.
The veteran goaltender missed about three weeks last season after having an emergency appendectomy in Philadelphia. Scott Darling started 10 straight games in his absence and went 6-3-1.
Starting duties now fall to Anton Forsberg, whom the Hawks acquired from Columbus in the Artemi Panarin trade. Forsberg is 1-2-2 with a .904 save percentage and 3.71 GAA this season. JF Berube was recalled from Rockford and will be Forsberg's backup.
After facing Dallas, the Hawks will host the Los Angeles Kings on Sunday and then play at Washington on Wednesday.
