Girls gymnastics: Ng, Fremd off to high-scoring start
Senior Melanie Ng won two events and had the top all-around score as Fremd's girls gymnastics team started the season with a 139.80 score in the triangular meet it hosted Wednesday.
Lake Zurich (128.4) took second place, and Elk Grove (120.55) was third.
Ng grabbed the top spot in both balance beam (9.15) and uneven parallel bars (9.30).
Vikings junior Gianna Christodoulopoulos won the floor exercise, and sophomore teammate Sam Shirmer won vault (9.3).
Ng's winning all-around total was 35.75, with Christodoulopoulos in second (34.90) and Shirmer (34.80) in third.
Lake Zurich's lone top-three finish came from Jane Fabbrini, who placed third on floor exercise (9.0).
Elk Grove's best result came on balance beam, where sophomore Kate Talens tied with Fabbrini and Fremd's Ellyce Wong for fourth at 8.05.
Conant d. Hersey: The defending Mid-Suburban League champion Cougars earned a victory in their first conference matchup with a 135.35-127.60 decision against the visiting Huskies.
Conant's Kennedy O'Connor won vault (9.50), tied for first with Hersey's Mackenzie Kamysz on uneven bars (8.55) and had the top all-around score (34.65).
Kamysz also had a winning effort on floor exercise (8.50), and Conant's Bailey Bloom was the top performer on balance beam (9.20).
