Davis, Petro announce their Division I intentions

Conant's Ryan Davis and Hersey's Michael Petro have committed to collegiate futures in their respective sports.

Davis, a 6-foot-8 senior and one of the elite forwards in the state, announced via twitter Wednesday that he will join the men's basketball program at Vermont.

A three-year starter, Davis helped Conant to a 27-5 record last season in Tom McCormack's final year as head coach. The Cougars won the York tournament and advanced to the Class 4A sectional final held at Robert Morris University.

Davis tweeted, "First off I want to thank everyone that has helped me and pushed me to bcome the player and man I am today. I would also like to thank my parents for guiding me throughout this process. As well as all of my coaches and mentors and trainers for pushing me day and day out. At this time I'm extremely grateful to commit to the University of Vermont!"

Petro, meanwhile, formalized his decision on a swimming future at Louisiana State.

The state runner-up in both the 100-yard butterfly and the 200 IM last season, Petro has proven himself as a skilled competitor across a wide range of distances and strokes. He will soon begin his senior swim season at Hersey.
