Girls volleyball: Kaneland downs Larkin in regional opener

Kaneland's girls volleyball team opened play in its own Class 4A regional Monday night with a 25-8, 25-9 win over Larkin.

Sheila Mushunduzi (4 aces) and Grace Frank had 4 kills each for the Knights (28-7) while Sydney Fedderly (9 assists), Shelby Hannula (4 assists), Julianno Vassallo (4 aces, 6 digs) and Katie Jablonski (3 aces) also contributed to the win.

Kaneland, playing in 4A for the first time and the No. 6 seed, will take on No. 1 seed St. Charles North at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday in the semifinals.

South Elgin d. Streamwood: At the Class 3A St. Charles East regional, Elizabeth Vedrine had 6 kills while Casie Swanson added 8 digs and 7 assists to lead the Storm (26-7) to a 25-16, 25-11 win. Katie Flanagan added 5 kills and Angie Negron 4 kills for the Storm, who take on Geneva in Tuesday's semifinals.

CL South d. Lake Forest: Megan House had 9 kills and Kenzie Wilson 24 assists to lead Crystal Lake South to a 25-21, 25-12 win at the Class 3A McHenry regional. Kleja Cerniauskaite and Aurora Nero added 7 kills each for the Gators (16-16), who face Prairie Ridge in Tuesday's semifinals.
