Boys soccer: Leyden, Maine West earn regional semifinal wins
Leyden's boys soccer team rolled past Von Steuben 4-1 on Tuesday for a victory in the Class 3A regional the Eagles are hosting.
At the same site, Maine West eliminated Maine South 1-0 in the other semifinal. The Warriors got their goal from Emerson Herrera, who was assisted by Jason Martinez. Elmer Vega got the shutout.
Leyden and Maine West are scheduled to decide the regional championship at 6 p.m. Friday.
Palatine 3, Round Lake 0: The Class 3A regional host Pirates advanced to a matchup with Barrington at 11 a.m. Saturday by coming up with a shutout in semifinal play Tuesday.
Waukegan 2, Hersey 1: The North Suburban Conference co-champions eliminated the Huskies in Class 3A regional semifinal play hosted by Carmel Catholic.
St. Viator 3, Wauconda 1: In Class 2A regional semifinal play at Vernon Hills, the Lions got a pair of second-half goals from David Stahl and one from Will Hartman to advance to a regional title matchup against Prairie Ridge, which cruised past Vernon Hills 5-0.
The Vernon Hills regional final is scheduled for 1 p.m. Saturday.
