Boys soccer: Elgin, Hampshire to meet for regional title

At the Class 3A Hampshire regional, it was business as usual for the Elgin Maroons boys soccer team as they downed Rockford Jefferson 7-0. No. 2 seed Elgin (15-2-3) scored 6 goals in the first half as Omar Lopez tallied a hat trick while Jean Gomez supplied 2 goals and 2 assists. Andy Zavala and Jesus Lopez also provided goals while Rafa Perez squared up 2 assists. Julian Garfias and Pablo Perez added assists as well to get the Maroons to Friday's 5 p.m. title game against No. 11 Hampshire, which beat No. 7 McHenry 3-1 in the nightcap. Hampshire (13-7-3) got goals from Sawyer Shores, Jack Fairwood and Thomas Walker. Andrew Krajecki had 8 saves in goal for the Whip-Purs.

Streamwood 8, Hononegah 1: At the Class 3A Rockford Guilford regional, Streamwood (12-5-2) exploded for 7 goals in the second half to break a 1-1 halftime tie. Alex Chavez powered the Sabres with 4 goals and 1 assist while Oscar Chavez provided 2 goals and 2 assists. Rafa Gil had 1 goal and 1 assist and Aldo Lazaro had a goal. Bryan Mora, Alex Herrera, Tony Hodzic and Gregorio Esteves provided assists whereas goalie Daniel Dominguez made 2 saves. Streamwood will meet No. 10 South Elgin in Saturday's 1 p.m. final. South Elgin downed host Guilford 3-0 in Tuesday's second game.

Dundee-Crown 4, CL Central 1: At the Class 3A Rockford Auburn regional, the No. 1 seed Chargers (18-0-2) broke a 1-1 tie at the half with 3 second half goals. Julian Ajroja (1 assist), Mario Solano, Eric Martinez and Roland Dearborn each found the net while Ivan Juanchi provided 2 assists. Keeper Damien Smiech had 1 save in net for D-C to move on to Saturday's 1 p.m. final against No. 8 CL South.

CL South 5, DeKalb 0: Oscar Campos and Alex Canfield each had 2 goals and keeper Brandon Gorka provided 3 saves for his sixth shutout during an Auburn regional semifinal win. Nikolas Getzinger also scored while Brad Grabowski and John Wruck added assists for the Gators (11-10-2), who were one of two teams take D-C to overtime this year.

St. Charles East 2, Benet 1 (OT): At the Class 3A St. Charles North regional, the No. 7 Saints continued their hot streak as Truitt Battin provided the heroics in overtime. George Maridis put East up 1-0 at the half and provided the game-winning assist. Luke Schnitker also had an assist for East (8-9-4), which saw goalie Zach Kennedy notch 5 saves in 100 minutes. East will play rival No. 1 seed St. Charles North for the regional title Saturday at 2 p.m.
