Girls swimming: Barrington, Hersey claim MSL divisional titles with unbeaten dual records

The Hersey and Barrington girls swim teams completed unbeaten runs through their divisional Mid-Suburban League competition Thursday.

The Huskies earned their third straight victory in the MSL East - and it was anything but simple to finish off. The meet was scheduled to be held at Wheeling, and Hersey made the trip there, only to learn the pool had problems and could not be used for the meet. So Wheeling and Hersey made their way back to Hersey's home waters at Prospect and held the meet there.

Hersey won 141-41, getting event wins from Amy Kang (200 IM and 100 breast), Shannon Blumenfeld (200 free), Claire Lutz (50 free), Maddie Irvine (100 fly), Anna Kreie (100 free), Olivia Kusio (500 free) and Carly McKean (100 back).

Wheeling's Anna Emery won diving with a score of 212.80.

Barrington completed a West repeat by topping visiting Conant 97-79.

The Fillies rolled to a 1-2-3 finish in the medley relay before doing likewise in the first individual event, the 200 free, with Maria Pritchett (2:00.67), Julie Vega and Sarah Langlois taking the top three spots.

Other winners for Barrington included Emma Pritchett in the 200 IM (2:16.90), Ally Penrod in the 50 free (24.69), Nicole Barcroft in diving (222.20), Catherine Kitzman in the 100 fly (1:00.19) and Emma Graves in the 100 free (55.07).

Barrington senior Maggie Emary, who this week committed to a collegiate swimming future at Florida State, won the 500 free in 5:06.51.

Fremd d. Schaumburg: The visiting Vikings finished a 4-1 campaign against MSL West foes by topping the host Saxons 101-77.

Fremd counted early wins from Marie Grzybek in the 200 free (2:02.95), Kristina Buzuloiu in the 50 free (26.53), Carly Goodsite in diving (232.65) and Lauren Savage in the 500 free (1:04.01).

Schaumburg's winners included Hana Mollin in the 200 IM (2:10.18) and 100 back (1:00.85) and Lynda Steen in the 500 free (5:34.47).
