Despite suspension, Bears' Trevathan won't change aggressive play

Back from his one-game suspension for a helmet-to-helmet hit on Green Bay Packers wide receiver Davante Adams, Chicago Bears inside linebacker Danny Trevathan says he won't change his aggressive style of play.

"I've just got to be more careful with situations like that," Trevathan said. "But I can't let that slow me down. I've been playing this game for a long time. I'll be more careful with the rules that are in place. But I'm just trying to make a play and hustling to the ball."

Trevathan reached out to Adams, and he says their relationship is OK. After spending one night in a hospital, Adams played last week against the Dallas Cowboys and caught 7 passes for 66 yards and 2 touchdowns.

"He texted me back," Trevathan said. "We communicated back and forth. I talked to him twice. He played last game, so we're good."

Trevathan's return comes at a critical time because John Timu, who started last week, isn't expected to play with a knee-ankle injury, and Nick Kwiatkoski (chest) isn't expected back yet.

"He'll definitely help us coming back," defensive coordinator Vic Fangio said of Trevathan, who leads the team with 29 tackles. "Especially in light of Timu's injury, we were short. We ended that (Week 5) game with only two inside linebackers, so we're back up to three right now."

Super sub:

Inside linebacker Christian Jones led the Bears in tackles last week as a fill-in starter with Danny Trevathan serving a one-game suspension.

"I thought (he was an) admirable replacement," coach John Fox said. "Some good, some bad, like all of us. But he's capable. He's been out there before. We have confidence in him. He does a really good job on fourth down (special teams). He's been in a lot of our sub defenses.

"On short notice, I thought he did a good job."

Injury update:

Guard Kyle Long (ankle) and linebacker John Timu (knee/ankle) did not practice.

Long's absence was to rest his surgical ankle, and he is expected to play. Timu is not.

"We're just trying to make sure he gets to Sunday," coach John Fox said of Long. "It's not a new injury."

Cornerback Marcus Cooper (back) was limited after missing Monday night's game and Wednesday's practice.

Linebacker Nick Kwiatkoski (chest) and center Hroniss Grasu (hand) were limited, as was wide receiver Markus Wheaton (groin), a new addition to the injured list.

For the Baltimore Ravens, four starters did not practice; defensive linemen Brandon Williams (foot) and Carl Davis (thigh), guard Matt Skura (knee) and cornerback Jimmy Smith (Achilles).

Pulling a switch:

The Bears' Week 7 home game against the Carolina Panthers on Sunday, Oct. 22, has been cross-flexed from FOX to CBS. The game will still kickoff at noon.
