Girls volleyball: Hersey goes to 9-0 in East

Hersey's girls volleyball team moved to within 1 win of a perfect Mid-Suburban East season by defeating Rolling Meadows 25-21, 24-26, 25-12 on Tuesday night in Arlington Heights.

The Huskies, who clinched their 15th straight East title last week, raised their record to 18-5 overall and 9-0 in the East.

They were led on attack by Kati Kaburov (9 kills), Amy Morgan (6) and Haylee Martin (3). Janine Boyan and Juliette Vandenherik had 2 apiece.

Alessia Olhava (16 assists) and Emma Strozewski (9 assists) set the attack while Molly Twohig's 23 digs led the back row.

Meadows (14-19, 5-4) was led on offense by Natalie Anderson (8 kills), Elise Kowalski (7 kills), Eleanor Errico (6 kills) and Natalie Klancnik (6 kills).

Mallory King and Klancnik each had 10 assists while Macie Robinson led the defense with 23 digs, followed by Klancnik (14), Kowalski (12), Caroline Slowik (9), Errico (8) and Ashley Dawson (7).

Schaumburg d. Conant: Schaumburg (14-8, 7-2) moved into a first-place tie in the MSL West with a 5-21 25-18 win at Conant (6-16, 2-7).

The Saxons are tied with Fremd (also 7-2) and will try for at least a share of the West title on Thursday when they host Barrington (18-10, 6-3).

Buffalo Grove d. Prospect: Host Buffalo Grove (13-11, 5-4) won the MSL East match 28-26, 25-21 behind the attack of Nicole Langer (10 kills), Claire Ferriss (6 kills) and Lauren Horvath (5). Maggie Steckert handed out 22 assists while Ferriss and Kristen Belias each had 8 digs.

Prospect (7-19, 4-5) was led on attack by Grace Cacini (6 kills), Sloane Petlak (5), Casey Acosta (4) and Meghan Meredith (3). Acosta also handed out 17 assists while Val Thomas had 17 digs and Colleen Palczynski 6.

Barrington def. Hoffman Estates: Barrington (18-10, 6-3) posted a 25-13, 25-5 over visiting Hoffman Estates (0-16, 0-9) as Andi Capel (6 kills, 6 aces, 4 digs), Bailey Madrzyk (5 kills, 2 ace), Paige Ramel (2 kills, 2 blocks) and Kate Shechtman (2 kills, 2 blocks) led the Fillies' attack.

Other key performers for the winners were Suzana Andrade de Oliveira (8 digs,), Tara Kozak (12 assists) and Felicia Guagliardo (8 assists, 2 aces).

Wheeling d. Elk Grove: Visiting Wheeling raised its record 15-12 and 4-5 in the MSL East with a 25-12, 25-23 win. Rachel Kandefer (4 kills) and Jessica Deering (2 kills) led the attack for Elk Grove (2-21, 0-9), which received 14 digs from Megan Murray.

Marist d. St. Viator: State-ranked Marist posted a 19-25, 25-8, 25-13 win over the visiting Lions (24-9, 2-4) in the ESCC match. Catherine Hickey (13 kills), Kendall Claffey (5), Kate Nottoli (2) and Haylee Liberty (2) led the attack set by Michaela Mueller (16 assists), Carrie Leazer led with 15 digs and Mueller had 12.

Harper d. DuPage: Ellie Burzlaff (9 kills), Sarah Udoni (7 kills) and Breanna Cullen (5 kills) led Harper to a 25-13, 25-11, 25-19 win in North Central Community College Conference play. Udoni also had 4 blocks while Emily Huprich had 34 assists.

Ariana Chelini led with 14 digs and Cullen with 4 aces.
