Girls tennis: Stevenson goes indoors for NSC title

Rain forced the North Suburban Conference girls tennis tournament indoors Friday, canceling Saturday play.

The inclement weather couldn't wreak havoc on Stevenson's undefeated season, however.

The Patriots defeated Lake Forest in four of the seven championship flights to capture the team title by a 36-34 margin. Libertyville (16 points) edged Warren (15) for third place, while Lake Zurich (7) got by Mundelein (6) for fifth.

Stevenson also won the overall conference championship (dual-meet and tournament results combined). It was the Patriots' fifth NSC championship in a row and sixth in seven years.

Stevenson won three of the four doubles finals. At No. 1, Stevenson's Kate Harvey/Elizabeth Ferdman prevailed 6-1, 6-3 over Lake Forest's Nika Belova/Salma Alsikafi. Bronwyn Heidkamp/Alyssa Glaser of the Patriots won 6-1, 6-2 over the Scouts' Julianna Roman/Emily Asmussen at No. 2, and Stevenson's Samantha Burger/Ambika Singh were victorious 6-1, 6-2 over Lake Forest's Kelly Kunz/Olivia Wheldon at No. 3.

At No. 4, Lake Forest's Teresa Fawcett/Emily Gorczynski defeated Stevenson's Carly Lefar/Sneha Yellapantula 6-4, 6-3.

Stevenson's Zoe Taylor dropped a 7-6 (7-1), 7-5 decision to Lake Forest's Kiley Rabjohns in the No. 1 singles final, but the Patriots' Athena Kolli won 6-1, 6-2 over Lake Forest's Cody Avis at No. 2. Lake Forest's Alex Slomba beat Stevenson's Ellen Ma 6-4, 6-4 in the third-singles final.
