Girls swimming: Lyons prevails in Barrington's invite

Barrington's girls swimming and diving team is no longer unbeaten this fall, but the Fillies still put on a heck of show in the invitational they hosted Saturday.

Lyons Township, seventh in the state in the most recent rankings from Swimming in Illinois, edged Barrington 368-345 for top honors in a quality field of eight teams.

Loyola (209) was third, followed by the Glenbard West/Glenbard South co-op (192).

Juniors Bridget O'Leary and Ally Penrod had individual wins for Barrington, with O'Leary taking the 500-yard freestyle in 5:05.51 and Penrod winning the 100 breaststroke in 1:06.23. O'Leary also was runner-up in the 200 free, and Penrod placed third in the 100 free.

Among the other big point-scorers for Barrington were Catherine Kitzman (2nd in the 100 breast; 3rd in the 200 IM), Emma Pritchett (2nd in 100 fly, 3rd in 100 back), Julie Vega (3rd in the 50 free) and Elisabeth Graves (3rd in 500 free, 4th in 200 free).

Lyons Township won all three relays, edging second-place Barrington in close races each time.

The Glenbard West/South co-op team had a double individual winner in freshman Kate Morris, tops in the 200 free (1:53.90) and the 100 free (52.23)

Lyons freshman Eleanor McMeen won the 50 free in 24.88 and sophomore teammate Lindsey Merk won the 100 fly in 57.89.

Wheeling retro relays: The host Wildcats took third place in the unique relay meet they hosted.

Hinsdale South won with 171 points, followed by Taft (145) and Wheeling (130).

Wheeling got a victory in the 50-100-50 relay, where Sarah Bialas, Meghan Hergert and Corina Whidden won in 1:57.75. The Wildcats' 3 x 200 relay of Estephania Diaz, Sonya Prilutsky and Hergert also won in 7:18.30.
