Boys golf: Prospect, Conant advance as teams to sectional

The boys golf teams from Prospect and Conant extended their seasons by earning a spot in next week's Class 3A New Trier sectional with strong performances in the Conant regional at the Bridges of Poplar Creek on Tuesday.

Maine South won the the meet with a 308, with Prospect (322) taking second and Conant (340) in the third.

Hoffman Estates (342), Schaumburg (354), Maine West (366) and Rolling Meadows (367) took places four through seven.

The MSL co-champions got a terrific score from junior Charlie Busch (74) and also counted the efforts of junior Jack Knott (81), senior Riley Kingston (82) and senior Nate Dunker (85). Junior John Cantieri (86) and senior Josh Kern (98) also competed for Prospect.

Conant's effort was led by senior Kevin Andjulis (78). The Cougars also counted scores from sophomores Sunny Sivarathri (85), Matt McColagh (86) and junior Kyle Lejman (91); senior Tyler Mercurio (93) and Eric Bradley (96) also competed.

Maine South senior Brendan Ahlbeck shot 74 and claimed medalist honors.

Hoffman Estates had four individual qualifiers - senior Alex Harrison (78), senior Alex Mayani (86), junior Johnathan Lim (88) and senior Tom Curcio (90).

Schaumburg saw three individuals advance - junior Dan Meister (81), senior Nzelu Maitha (87) and senior Nick Tudor (91). Maine West senior Chase Stephen (89) and junior Luke Rothweiler (90) also advanced, along with Rolling Meadows sophomore Chris Cho (83).

Elk Grove regional: Three individuals from Leyden and two from Elk Grove will be among the field in next week's New Trier sectional after excelling in the Class 3A Elk Grove regional held at Fox Run Golf Links in Elk Grove.

Leyden sophomore Sutape Chantapim headed the individual qualifiers after shooting 79. He will be joined by junior teammates Marco Diaz (tied for third, 81) and Jared Hankins (10th, 89) in the sectional.

Elk Grove will be represented by sophomore Jason Gamez (fifth, 82) and senior Jacob Sullivan (eighth, 85).

Fenwick, paced by the medalist round of 69 from Josh Kirkham, won with a 302. Also earning team sectional advancement were York (306) and Lake Park (301).

Leyden finished fifth in the team standings at 343, and Elk Grove (354) was sixth.
