Boys golf: Jacobs, Coakley claim FVC crowns

Dominance.

That word would aptly describe Jacobs' performance at Thursday's Fox Valley Conference boys golf tournament held at Red Tail Golf Club in Lakewood and hosted by Crystal Lake Central.

Paced by a 1-under par 69 from medalist Riley Coakley, the Golden Eagles claimed their third FVC title in 5 years with a team total of 288.

Coakley carded a 33 on the front 9 followed by a 36 on the backside.

"My short game and putting were very good," said Coakley. "I scrambled very well. I need to drive the ball better. Overall it was a good day for me and the team."

Coakley received plenty of help from his teammates.

Jordan Stone was fourth overall with a 72 followed by Garrett Tighe (sixth, 73) and Ryan Wreszcz (11th, 74).

"We have had a very good year as a team but today we played our best golf of the season," said Jacobs coach Gary Conrad. "We finally clicked on all cylinders as a team and everybody on the team contributed. Riley was outstanding and led us."

Prairie Ridge was the runner-up 9 strokes back of Jacobs with a score of 297.

The Wolves' top score came from Cam Karney, who was third overall with a 1-over 71.

Crystal Lake South, 1 stroke back of PR, was third with a tally of 298.

The Gators, who placed 4 golfers in the Top 15, were led by John Lishchynsky (ninth, 74); Casey Hunter (10th, 74); Griffin Coakley (14th, 75), and Ricky Falbo (15th, 75).

"I was extremely pleased with the way we played," said Crystal Lake South coach Curt Wadlington. "It was easily our best effort of the season and a total team effort. Everybody played well. We are peaking at the right time of the year."

Cary-Grove placed fourth with a score of 304. The Trojans were paced by Patrick Tobin, who was fifth overall with a 73.

"My drives were consistent and I putted really well," said Tobin. "I was aggressive and was able to use the wide open spaces to rip my drives."

Trevor Brandon joined Tobin in the Top 15 with a 74 and a 12th place finish. Mike Greenhill carded a 77 and Adam Loch chipped in with an 80 to round out the scoring for the Trojans.

Dundee-Crown, paced by an eighth-place finish from Matt McQuillen who shot a 73, was fifth with a 305. Josh Zahara claimed a 75, JP Anderson scored a 76 and Alex Matsas shot 81 for the Chargers.

"I am really pleased with the way everybody played," said D-C coach Bob Sweeney. "To have three kids shoot in the 70s is exciting. It was a good day for our team."

Huntley, sixth with a score of 322, received a 13th place effort from Garrett Heinke with a 74.

Hampshire, eighth with a score of 338, received an 81 from Craig Bracke.
