In Rodgers, Nelson, Packers have special connection

This is the 10th year playing together for Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers and wide receiver Jordy Nelson, and they have an obvious connection.

They have collaborated on 62 touchdown passes, the most in Green Bay history. Last year was Nelson's fourth season with more than 1,200 receiving yards. Rodgers has 302 TD passes and just 74 interceptions since serving a three-year apprenticeship behind Brett Favre.

"Obviously, the deep ball is his specialty," said Bears defensive coordinator Vic Fangio of Nelson. "But he can catch the quick (throw), and he's a good runner after the catch. He's got deceiving speed, and obviously, him and Rodgers have a karma going, which makes it tough."

Nelson has had seasons with 15, 14 and 13 TD catches, and he has 3 already this year. He has averaged 14.7 yards on 510 career receptions.

"One of the things that helps him out is to have Aaron, and to be there for 10 years, and to have the same playbook," Bears cornerback Prince Amukamara said. "One of my best friends is (Packers cornerback) Davon House, and I tell him, 'It seems like Jordy and Aaron are in each other's minds.'

"They always know what they're going to do, whether it's back shoulder or 'don't turn up the field, just stop here.' They always seem like they're on the same page."

Room for improvement:

Outside linebacker Leonard Floyd had 7 sacks last year as a rookie but has none this season and just 1 quarterback pressure, and he had just 1 tackle Sunday against Pittsburgh.

Are those modest statistics misleading?

"To a degree," Vic Fangio said. "In the first game, we dropped him (into coverage) a lot. They were throwing the ball very quick, so we wanted him in coverage. That happened some, a fair amount, this past week, also.

"So I think it's more a product of the games we've played so far. I do think he can rush better with his opportunities that he has had, but I don't see it as an epidemic yet."

Like many pass rushers, Floyd's sacks can come in bunches. He had 4½ in a three-game stretch last season.

Injury update:

Safety Quintin Demps (fractured forearm) and linebacker Nick Kwiatkoski (chest) did not practice.

Center Hroniss Grasu (hand) and guard Josh Sitton (ribs) were limited, and guard Tom Compton (hip) was removed from the injury report.

For the Packers, starting cornerback Davon House (quadriceps) did not practice. Three starters were limited: left tackle David Bakhtiari (hamstring), right tackle Bryan Bulaga (ankle) and defensive tackle Mike Daniels (hip).

Here and gone:

Offensive lineman D.J. Tialavea was waived from the Bears' practice squad and defensive back Doran Grant and wide receiver Tre McBride were added.
