Girls volleyball: Schaumburg, Hersey stay perfect in MSL

Schaumburg's girls volleyball team completed the first half of its Mid-Suburban West schedule on Tuesday night with a 25-18, 26-24 victory at Barrington.

The Saxons (12-6) improved to 5-0 to retain its one-match lead over defending champion Fremd (12-6, 5-1).

Schaumburg visits Fremd on Thursday night at 6 p.m.

Morgan Sterrett (9 kills, 1 block), Dana Kiszkowski (7 kills, 2 blocks) and Ari Doroskin (1 kill, 4 blocks, 1 ace) led the attack for Schaumburg which was set by Michelle Candotti (18 assists, 2 blocks).

Teammates Gabby Paelmo (13 digs, 1 ace) and Emily Gniadek (6 digs, 2 aces) led the back row.

Barrington (12-8, 4-2) was led on attack by Andi Capel (11 kills, 1 aces, 3 digs), Bailey Madrzyk (8 kills) and Paige Ramel (2 kills, 3 blocks).

Other leaders were Suzana Andrade de Oliveira (8 digs, 2 aces), Tara Kozak (8 assists), Felicia Guagliardo (7 assists, aces) and Kate Shechtman (1 block).

Hersey d. Elk Grove: Visiting Hersey recorded a 25-10, 25-10 victory to remain undefeated in the MSL East.

The Huskies (14-4, 5-0) received 11 kills apiece by Amy Morgan (3 aces, 5 digs) and Kati Kaburov (7 digs) while Alessia Olhava (2 aces) and Haylee Martin each had 2 kills.

Olhava also shared setting duties with 14 assists while Emma Strozewski handed out 10.

Molly Twohig led the back row with 11 digs and Juliette Vandenherik had a team-high 5 blocks.

Elk Grove (2-17, 0-5) was led on attack by Rachel Kandefer (5 kills) and Gracie Gallo (3) while setter Jalyssa Mercado handed out 5 assists. Megan Murray collected 8 digs.

Rolling Meadows d. Prospect: Visiting Rolling Meadows (11-13, 3-2) was led on attack by Eleanor Errico (12 kills, 4 blocks, 2 aces), Elise Kowalski (8 kills, 1 block, 1 ace) and Natalie Anderson (4 kills) in a 20-25 25-12 25-22 MSL East victory.

Macie Robinson led the back row with 23 digs followed by Klancnik (12), Caroline Slowik (12) and Kowalski (11).

Sarah Skaggs handed out 14 assist and Gianna Russo chipped in 5 for the Knights' attack which was led by Meghan Meredith (8 kills, 3 blocks), Emma Cogan (5 kills) and Grace Cacini (3 kills, 1 block).

Valerie Thomas (3 aces) led the back row with 14 digs for Prospect (5-12, 3-2) followed by Emma Cogan (8), Skaggs (6) and Mia Farraday (5).

Fremd d. Conant: Jess Rizzo (10 kills), Heidi Sayre (8 kill, 10 digs) and Peyton Hooker (5 kills, 1 block) led the attack for host Fremd (12-6, 4-1) in a 25-14, 25-17 MSL West win.

Sarah Straup had 25 assists while Jess Mazur served 2 aces and collected 2 blocks. Maddie Aichinger had 6 digs and was 8-of-8 serve receiving.

Yuri Hara (6 kills, 11 digs), Joanne Cho (8 digs) and Amanda Klingsporn (9 digs) led the Cougars (5-14, 1-5).

Buffalo Grove d. Wheeling: Claire Ferriss put down 10 kills and had 1 block for host Buffalo Grove in a 26-24, 25-18 MSL East triumph.

The Bison (9-6, 3-2) also received 6 kills apiece from Mary Nowlan and Nicole Langer and 3 from Lauren Horvath.

Maggie Streckert handed out 28 assists and served 5 aces. Kristen Belias (1 ace) and Langer each had 6 digs. Riley Cross led the back row with 8 digs.

Wheeling (12-11, 1-4) was led on attack by Kamila Staniszewski (8 kills, 6 digs) and Nosa Igiehon (5 kills). Jessica Janowski set the offense with 15 assists while Jazmyn Veloso and Nicole Nguyen each collected 11 digs.

Palatine d. Hoffman Estates: Host Palatine, playing its first MSL home match, improved to 12-7 and 3-3 in the West with a 25-15, 25-11 victory.

Kathleen Gueco had 2 kills and Janiah Fowler 1 for the Hawks (0-11, 0-5).

Marian Central Catholic d. St. Viator: Marian Central posted a 25-20, 25-22 victory over the visiting Lions (21-5, 2-2) in the ESCC match.

Carrie Leazer served 5 aces and collected 21 digs for Viator which ws led on attack by Kate Nottoli (8 kills), Kaylee Liberty (4) and Catherine Hickey (3). Michaela Mueller was 64-of-65 setting with 15 assists
