Boys soccer: Lake County roundup

Boys soccer

Grayslake Central's boys soccer team rallied to beat Highland Park 5-2 on Wednesday night, but the win might have come with a price.

Nick Walker had 2 goals and 2 assists, as the Rams erupted for five goals in the second half to capture the nonconference match. Trevor Veenstra had 2 goals and an assist for Grayslake Central (13-5-1), which also got a goal from Jake Miller.

Walker increased his season totals to 15 goals and 6 assists, but suffered a potentially season-ending injury to his collarbone, coach Tom Hamilton said.

The Rams have won six in a row.

"We showed character after going down by a couple goals and showed what we can do when we are focused and working together as a unit," Hamilton said. "We're obviously devastated for Nick. It couldn't have happened to a nicer kid. We're going to rally around him and come together as a family for him and each other in this tough time. But we've dealt with setbacks before. This won't stop him, and this won't stop us."

Lakes 2, Harvard 0: The host Eagles got first-half goals from Nick Dydo (his seventh) and Cam Beezley (his 17th) to win the nonconference match.

Dydo scored off an assist from his brother Zach within the first 10 minutes of the game. Beezley was set up by Sean O'Brien.

Danny Wieczorek and Wade Parmly shared goalkeeping for the Eagles (10-8), who notched their ninth shutout of the season. Each keeper had a dozen saves.

Vernon Hills 2, Lake Zurich 1: The Cougars moved to 10-7 for the season, as Chris White picked up his 15 goal of the season and Cole Guillaume scored the game-winner in the nonconference match.

Vernon Hills keeper Brennan Reback recorded 4 saves.

Round Lake 1, Mundelein 1: Round Lake led 1-0 at halftime on a goal by Christofer Gomez.
