Girls golf: Carmel tops Nazareth

Freshman Maria Stephens fired a 41, and Carmel Catholic's girls golf team defeated host Nazareth 180-190 in an East Suburban Catholic Conference match at Carriage Greens Country Club in Darien on Wednesday.

Carmel also counted Victoria Giambrone's 44, Becca Curley's 47 and Sydney Faerber's 48.

Lakes d. Harvard: At Beaver Creek Golf Course, the visiting Eagles earned the nonconference win 183-192.

Rachel Speck led Lakes with a 43, Camryn Jones shot a 45, Megan Klein had a 47, and Tessa Pooley carded a 49.

Harvard's Jennah Brookner also had a 43 and was the medalist based on a tiebreaker.

"I am extremely proud of the effort our girls put forth today," Lakes coach Nick Aguina said. "Not only did we score a season-low of 183, but our top four girls that qualified today all shot below a 50. This just speaks volumes to the work the girls have put in throughout the season."

Lakes improved to 7-2.

"I am super proud of the effort our team put forth today," Jones said. "We are making great strides as a program."

Vernon Hills d. Mundelein: At Countryside Golf Club, junior Grace Im shot a 40 to earn medalist honors and lead the visiting Cougars (178) past the Mustangs (271) for their fourth straight win.

Freshman Maja Mirjanic added a 43 for Vernon Hills (5-4), freshman Sumin Hong carded a season-best 47, and Jacki Park had a 48.
