Girls volleyball: Lakes takes another step forward

Erica Grant pounded 9 kills, and Lakes' girls volleyball team remained undefeated by beating host Grayslake North 25-13, 25-11 in a Northern Lake County Conference opener Thursday night.

Katie Billetdeaux and Keelan Bell added 7 and 6 kills, respectively, for the Eagles (11-0). Lakes' other contributors included Rachel Orpano (9 assists), Devinn Bell (14 assists) and Alyssa Bombicino (9 digs).

Wauconda d. Antioch: Riley Aldrich's 12 kills helped the host Bulldogs rally for a 19-25, 25-15, 25-23 win in a Northern Lake County opener.

Summer Olsen had 16 assists, 4 aces and 10 digs for Wauconda (8-6), and Savannah Johnson contributed 12 assists, 2 aces, 2 kills and 5 digs. The Bulldogs also got contributions from Jane Sakowicz (17 digs, 2 kills), Zoe Turnbull (6 kills, 3 blocks), Nicole Callahan (5 kills), Nicole Carazas (5 kills) and Sam Sasin (2 blocks, 3 kills).

St. Viator d. Vernon Hills: The host Lions won their Volley for a Cure match 25-15, 25-16 to improve to 7-4.

Vernon Hills fell to 3-7.
