Week 2: Scouting the West Suburban

Addison Trail (1-0) at York (0-1)Game time: 7:30 p.m. Friday.

The quick hit: While Blazers running back Nick D'Ambrose dominated on the ground, quarterback Nick Daudelin showed poise in his first varsity start. Even in defeat, York showed its physical side on the offensive line with sophomore Josh Mathiasen.

Downers South (0-1) at Oak Park (1-0)Game time: 7:30 p.m. Friday.

The quick hit: Jaelynn Blecke was a bright spot for the Mustangs in a loss to Bolingbrook that was closer than the score showed. With running back Terrance Roundy and receiver Trevon Brown, Oak Park rallied from a 2-touchdown deficit to beat Simeon.

Hinsdale South (1-0) at Lyons Twp. (1-0)Game time: 7:30 p.m. Friday.

The quick hit: Between 96 rushing yards from Marquese Garrett and 114 receiving yards by Destin Talbert, last week the Hornets displayed terrific offensive balance. Cincinnati-bound Lions quarterback Ben Bryant threw 4 touchdown passes to beat Sandburg.

Leyden (1-0) at Downers North (0-1)Game time: 7:30 p.m. Friday.

The quick hit: Downers North showed promise while outgaining Lockport 250-130 in total yards, but two red-zone fumbles doomed the Trojans. Drew Shelly caught 6 passes from Jack Carr as the offense showed the ability to move the chains through the air.

Proviso East (0-1) at Glenbard West (0-1)Game time: 1:30 p.m. Saturday.

The quick hit: The Pirates will have a tough time breaking a 27-game losing streak. Glenbard West's defense clearly struggled last week, so look for some adjustments. It might start with two-way play from offensive standouts Alec Pierce and Ryan Diver.

Willowbrook (1-0) at Hinsdale Central (0-1)Game time: 7:30 p.m. Friday.

The quick hit: While Jack Jessen and Chris Diaz rushed for more than 100 yards in a win for the Warriors, Scott Tumilty picked off two passes and caught a touchdown. Considering the Red Devils lost to a nationally ranked team, they remain dangerous.
