Girls volleyball: Hersey stops Libertyville in three
Hersey's girls volleyball team had more than week off since its opening-night win at St. Viator on Aug. 21.
The Huskies were eager to get back on the floor and they showed it on Wednesday at Libertyville.
Led by 12 kills from sophomore Kati Kaburov and 8 from Amy Morgan, the Huskies posted a 21-25 25-14 25-21 nonconference triumph over the Wildcats.
Alessia Olhava (5 kills, 1 block), Jamie Boylan (4 kills, 3 blocks) and Juliette Vandenherick (2 kills, 2 blocks) were also key factors at the net for Hersey (2-0) while Emma Strozewski handed out 28 assists and had 1 kill.
Kaburov and Morgan each served 3 aces and Kayla Eschoo had two.
Coniglio, Kaburov and Morgan each had 11 digs followed by Olhava (10) and Strozewski (6).
Naperville Central d. Fremd: Host Naperville Central earned a hard-fought 27-25, 26-24 nonconference triumph over Fremd, which was playing its season opener.
The Vikings were led on attack by Jess Rizzo (11 kills), Heidi Sayre (5 kills) and Jess Mazur (4 kills). Sarah Straup set the offense with 18 assists. Samantha Smith had 6 digs and Jules Tangney led with 2 blocks.
Leyden d. Vernon Hills: Junior outside hitter Destiny Corral (6 kills) and senior setter Andrea Horvath (15 assists, 3 aces) helped led the visiting Eagles to a 28-26, 25-23 nonconference won over Vernon Hills.
Taft d. Rolling Meadows: Taft defeated the visiting Mustangs 25-16, 25-21 in the nonconference match.
Eleanor Errico (17-17, 8 kills) and Natalie Anderson (8-10, 3 kills) were top attackers for the Mustangs (0-3) who received 12 assists from Mallory King and 2 from Ashley Dawson.
Macie Robinson chipped in 5 digs for Meadows.
