Girls volleyball: St. Viator takes fourth at Wheaton North

The St. Viator girls volleyball team went 3-2 at the Wheaton North tournament to take fourth place and finish the second week of the season with a 4-3 record.

The Lions earned a 25-19, 25-14 triumph over Glenbard South on Saturday before dropping matches to Montini (17-25, 25-20, 25-17) and the host Falcons (25-23, 21-25, 25-15).

Leading the St. Viator attack in the five tourney matches (with two other wins on Wednesday) were Catherine Hickey (163-183, 82 kills), Kendall Claffey (87-105, 36 kills), Kate Nottoli (35-43, 20 kills) and Kaylee Liberty (38-43 13 kills).

Nottoli was tops in blocks with 9 while Michael Mueller handed out 148 assists from 373 attempts.

Carrie Leazer led the back row with 72 digs. Hickey also led the Lions with 15 aces followed by Leazer 8 aces and Taylor Pfaller (5).

Buffalo Grove (4-3) finished 2-3 in the tourney, getting wins on Saturday over West Chicago and Romeoville.

In its three matches on Saturday (loss to Yorkville), the Bison were led on attack by Sasha Rozhko (26-33, 7 kills), Nicole Langer (56-70, 21 kills), Lauren Horvath (32-39, 17 kills) and Mary Nowlan (26-28, 16 kills).

Olivia Morini and Nowlan each served 5 aces while Maggie Streckert set the attack with 74 assists from 208 attempts.

Kristen Belias led with 49 digs followed by Nina Masciopinto (48), Morini (34) and Riley Cross (31) while Nowlan had 11 blocks and Streckert 8.
