Cougars again shutout by Chiefs

PEORIA - Three of the Kane County Cougars' (30-32, 69-60) nine shutouts have come against the Peoria Chiefs (32-30, 62-69) in 2017. Shutout number three came Saturday night at Dozer Park by a final score of 4-0.

Yan Sanchez, Adam Walton and Frank Christy were the only Cougars to record a hit against Peoria starter Frederis Parra (4-6) Saturday night. The Chiefs' right-hander worked seven shutout innings only allowing 4 total hits and stranding five Cougar base runners. Parra also recorded 7 strikeouts.

Cougar starter Emilio Vargas (5-6) provided a decent outing, but allowed Peoria to jump out in front right from the get go. The Chiefs scored one run in each of the first three frames against Vargas, including a solo shot for Stefan Trosclair in the third inning. Vargas eventually went 5⅔ frames, being pulled in the sixth for Trevor Simms.

Simms put together a solid bounce back effort, coming from his last loss as he worked 2⅓ scoreless innings in relief.

Leland Tilley finished the game with scoreless eighth and ninth frames including 5 strikeouts
