Boys soccer: Elgin wins second straight

The Elgin boys soccer team moved to 2-0 Thursday with a 9-0 thrashing at Harlem. Omar Lopez was all over the stat sheet. The forward sizzled with 5 goals and 1 assist for an 11-point night, scoring 5 of Elgin's first 6 goals. Luis Ramos (1 assist), Alex Kunicki, Tobi Abiodun and Jean Carlos Padilla also added goals as Elgin led 6-0 at the half. Ola Ajayi led in assists with 3 while Mario Gonzalez, Isaac Monroy, Rafael Perez and Julian Garfias each had 1 and keeper Martin Jimenez needed just 2 saves for the shutout.

St. Charles East 2, Naperville Central 1: Vince DiNuzzo earned his first win as Saints head coach thanks to 2 second half goals by Brendan Adams and Tyler Villanueva to beat the Redhawks. Luke Schnitker added an assist and goalie Zach Kennedy had 4 saves.

Dundee-Crown 2, Lakes 0: At the North Shore Shootout hosted by Lake Forest, the Chargers improved to 3-0 and advanced to Saturday's championship against Round Lake thanks to Gerardo Estrada, who registered 1 goal and 1 assist. Roland Dearborn added an insurance goal in the 62nd minute while keeper Damien Smiech earned the shutout with 3 saves.

St. Edward 3, Marian Central 1: Former Suburban Catholic foes met in Woodstock and the Green Wave (2-0) used goals from Josh Johansen, AJ Franklin and Will Gaston to get a nonconference win. Michael Lopez and Uriel Carachure spotted assists while Evan Sajtar had 3 saves in net.

Hampshire 3, Woodstock North 1: The Whip-Purs improved to 2-0-1 in a nonconference win over the Thunder. Mike Curatti led the way with 2 goals while Jack Fairwood added 1 and Jesus Riveria had 3 assists.

Burlington Central 1, DeKalb 1: At the DeKalb Tournament, the Rockets (0-1-1) finished in a tie against the host Barbs as Central's Jack Schramme knotted the game at the 60 minute mark on Kevin Green's assist. Goalie Ryan Parsons made 10 saves in net.

Bartlett 1, McHenry 1: The Hawks (0-1-1) received an unassisted goal by Omar Chavez and 6 saves from goalie Zac Rebac in a nonconference tie against the Warriors.

Lake Park 3, South Elgin 2: Chris Stanczyk and Matt McKee scored goals for the Storm, who came up short in the Lake Park Invite against the host Lancers. AJ Kirkby and Eduardo Carrillo each had assists while goalie Fernando Rivera had 11 saves.

Lake Zurich 4, Jacobs 2: The Golden Eagles dropped to 0-2 despite Colin Walsh having 1 goal and 1 assist. Wisconsin-bound Noah Melick added a goal in the 16th minute.
