Girls volleyball: Beshel, Grayslake Central top Zion-Benton
Junior Cassidy Beshel had 9 kills and 4 blocks, as Grayslake Central's girls volleyball outlasted host Zion-Benton 25-23, 18-25, 25-21 in its season opener Tuesday night.
Junior Amber Moser added 7 kills for the Rams, and University of South Florida commit Lauren LaBeck was 68-of-68 setting with 22 asssits. Lizzie Twardock and Michelle Maraist each served 2 aces. Maraist also registered 16 digs.
"It was a solid team win against a strong Zion-Benton team tonight," Grayslake Central coach Jason Janczak said. "We were able to push through some first-game jitters and finish strong in the third set."
Barrington d. Stevenson: The Patriots dropped their season opener 22-25, 25-20, 25-20, despite 11 kills from Hope Havenhill and six from Lauren Micek.
Chloe Robinson had 13 digs for Stevenson, while Alex Cuc dished out 25 assists. Becca Sullivan and Emily Grimes each delivered 2 aces for the the Patriots, and Lily Cozzi contributed 4 kills and 2 aces.
Wauconda d. Mundelein: The Bulldogs rallied for a 16-25, 25-19, 25-21 win in season-opening action.
Mundelein's Isabella Cartland had 8 kills and 14 digs, and Alexis Naddy tallied 5 kills and 3 aces for the Mustangs.
