Boomers drop series to Wild Things
The Schaumburg Boomers dropped a series for just the third time this year, suffering a 6-2 loss to the Washington Wild Things in the rubber game on Sunday afternoon.
The contest featured two of the top pitchers in the league the past few seasons with all-stars Kagen Hopkins for Schaumburg and Trevor Foss for Washington. Kyle Ruchim staked the Boomers a 1-0 lead with a two-out solo homer in the bottom of the third. Washington scored two runs quickly in the fifth on back-to-back doubles to grab the lead. The Wild Things padded the margin with four runs in the sixth against the bullpen and held on for the win. Ryan O'Malley tallied a 2-out RBI-single in the eighth for the final run of the game.
Hopkins worked 5 innings and allowed a pair of runs on 5 hits to suffer the loss. Derek DeYoung threw a pair of perfect innings to finish out the game. Schaumburg finished the game with 7 hits. Ruchim and Seth Spivey tallied multihit performances. Spivey owns 21 multihit games this year.
The Boomers, owners of the top record in the league at 28-11, will embark on a six-game road trip beginning Tuesday night at Joliet. RHP Conrad Wozniak (0-0, 1.27) takes the ball in the opener.
