Bandits can't comeback against Charge

SAN MARCOS, Tex. - Natalie Hernandez attempted to spark a late rally for the Bandits in game two against the Texas Charge on Saturday night. However, her seventh inning solo shot was not enough as the Charge staved off the comeback to take the game 2-1 and even the series.

Chicago starter Ellen Sara Roberts went pitch-for-pitch against Texas' Dallas Escobedo. Roberts, who entered the game with an impressive 26 strikeouts through just 25 innings, racked up another pair in 4⅓ innings of work before giving way to right-hander Shelby Turnier. Roberts was saddled with a tough loss after allowing 3 hits and 1 earned run.

Turnier surrendered one hit and one run in her relief effort.

Texas opened up the scoring in the second inning when Nadia Taylor and Koral Costa executed a double-steal of home and second base to perfection.

The Charge continued to challenge the Bandits defense in the sixth when Brittany Gomez reached a scoring position and came across with the second run of the game on a wild pitch.

Hernandez's blast in the final frame, her first of the season, looked to provide some late-inning heroics for the Bandits. However, a 2-out single by Emily Crane did not come to pass as Alexa Peterson was caught looking to end the game.
