Boomers drop back-and-forth affair

The Schaumburg Boomers dropped a back-and-forth contest to the Normal CornBelters in the finale of a weekend series on Sunday afternoon by 11-7.

Schaumburg fell behind 2-0 and 3-1, but rallied behind 5 runs in the fifth to take a 6-3 lead. Seth Spivey connected on a 3-run homer with 2 outs to put the Boomers ahead. Kenny Towns added an RBI double and Cosimo Cannella an RBI single in the rally. Normal came back to tie the game. Kyle Ruchim gave the Boomers the lead again at 7-6 with a 2-out, 2-strike single in the eighth. The CornBelters were able to score five times in the ninth to tally the win.

Jack Parenty paced an 11-hit attack with three for the Boomers and added 3 steals. Schaumburg stole 6 bases in the game. Ruchim added two hits. Alec Kenilvort suffered the loss in relief. Aryton Costa started and threw four innings on short rest.
