Baseball: Neuqua Valley, Glenbard South, Benet win
Neuqua Valley 5, Minooka 4:
Evan Ranneklev's RBI single in the bottom of the eighth inning scored Ryan Wheeler to give the Wildcats (33-1) a walk-off victory in the Class 4A Neuqua Valley regional title game. Neuqua Valley trailed 4-0 until the bottom of the fourth when James Gargano doubled in 2 runs and Ryan Wheeler tied it with a 2-run homer. Mason LeBreck earned the win with three innings of relief for starter Justin Hicks. The Wildcats play Plainfield East at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday in the Oswego sectional semifinals.
Glenbard South 6, St. Patrick 2:
The Raiders (13-20) advanced to the Class 3A Benet sectional semifinals with a win in the St. Patrick regional title game. Glenbard South scored 3 runs in the third and seventh inning as Robbie McGimpsey and Kyle Zygadto drove in 2 runs. Winning pitcher Christian Dupuis scattered 6 hits in 6 innings. Glenbard South plays Benet at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday at Benedictine University with a berth in the sectional final on the line.
Benet 9, Noble/Bulls 2:
The Redwings (23-11) won in the Class 3A Benet regional final, winning their third straight regional title. Jack Schneider and Brandon Gorz each went 2-for-3 and combined for 6 RBI. Erik Jones and Tyler Bautista also had 2 hits in support of complete-game winning pitcher Steven Arrowsmith. Benet plays Glenbard South in the Benet sectional semifinals at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday at Benedictine University.
Montini 9, Elmwood Park 4:
A victory in the Class 3A Montini regional final earned the Broncos (19-15) their fourth straight regional title. Alex Luka and Ryan Nelson doubled twice while Jake Karczewski drove in 2 runs. Anthony Rogers pitched 5 innings to notch the win. Montini plays Nazareth at 7 p.m. Wednesday in the Benet sectional semifinals.
Plainfield North 1, Naperville Central 0:
Plainfield North scored a walk-off run in the bottom of the 10th to beat the Redhawks (21-12) in the Class 4A Hinsdale South regional final. Connor Gurnik and Ryan Eiermann went 2-for-4. Naperville Central starting pitcher Nick Rietz struck out 11 in 6 innings.
Conant 5, Glenbard West 0:
The Hilltoppers (14-21) fell in the Class 4A Bartlett regional final as Kevin Spencer had the team's lone hit.
Maine West 3, York 2:
Maine West scored all its runs in the top of the fifth inning to win the Class 4A Niles North regional championship. Nick Lee homered for York (23-11) and Austin Gelsomino also drove in a run.
