Softball: Radke gets Grayslake Central a perfect playoff start

Reagen Radke threw a four-inning perfect game, and Grayslake Central's softball team opened the Class 3A state tournament with a 16-0 win over 15th-seeded Lake View on its home field Tuesday.

Radke (17-7) struck out 11 of the 12 batters she faced, as the No. 2 Rams (24-11) advanced to their own regional final at 11 a.m. Saturday against the winner of Wednesday's game between No. 7 Wauconda and No. 9 Resurrection.

Radke and Morgan Smigielski (4 RBI, walk) both doubled. Brooke Heraty tripled and walked twice. Grayslake Central scored 13 runs in the bottom of the first inning.

Lakes 20, CICS/Northtown 1: At Lakes, the third-seeded Eagles cruised against the No. 14 seed in their Class 3A regional semifinal.

Lakes advances to Saturday's 11 a.m. regional final against the winner of Wednesday's game between No. 6 Richmond-Burton and No. 11 Fenton.

Antioch, Harvard, susp.: At Ridgewood, the top-seeded Sequoits were leading the No. 16 seed 3-0 in the bottom of the first when the Class 3A regional semifinal was suspended.

The game will be resumed at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday at Harvard.

Warren, Glenbrook South, ppd.: At Glenbrook North, the Class 4A regional semifinal between No. 2 Warren and No. 15 Glenbrook South was postponed.

The game will be made up at 4:30 p.m. Thursday.

Libertyville, Lake Forest, ppd.: At Stevenson, the Class 4A regional semifinal between top-seeded Libertyville and No. 16 Lake Forest was postponed.

The game will be made up at 2 p.m. Wednesday, followed by Mundelein against Stevenson.

Hersey, Grayslake North, ppd.: At Loyola, the Class 4A regional semifinal between No. 4 Hersey and No. 13 Grayslake North was postponed.

The game will be made up at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Baseball

Carmel 11, Fremd 0: The Corsairs tuned up for their state tournament opener with a five-inning win, as Charley Dir went 2-for-2 with 2 doubles and 2 RBI, and Lukas Galdoni threw 4 no-hit innings with 5 strikeouts.

Galdoni and Ben Wiegman also doubled, and Austin Ehren was 2-for-2 with 2 runs scored and 2 stolen bases.

Carmel (21-7), the No. 3 seed in the Class 3A Lake View sectional, plays No. 14 Marian Central at 4 p.m. Wednesday in the Richmond-Burton regional.

Libertyville, Wheeling, ppd.: At Highland Park, the Class 4A regional semifinal between No. 2 Libertyville and No. 15 Wheeling was postponed.

The game will be made up at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday.
