Softball: Cary-Grove takes regional opener

Taylor Langguth had a big day for Cary-Grove's softball team Monday as the Trojans defeated Round Lake 11-1 in the play-in game of the Class 4A Prairie Ridge regional.

Langguth had 2 hits and 4 RBI and was also the winning pitcher going 4 innings and allowing 3 hits with 3 strikeouts and no walks.

Adding to the offense for the Trojans (12-18) were Katy Wierczorek (2 hits, 3B, RBI), Alina Krembuszewski (3B, 2 RBI), Alyssa Gurgone (2 hits, 2B), Jazz Flashing (2 RBI), Nicollette Richardi (2 hits) and Rachel Stanley (2B, RBI).

The Trojans will play Grant at PR on Tuesday.

Addison Trail 10, Larkin 9: Haley Bohne had 3 hits with a home run for Larkin in its season-ending loss at the Class 4A Lake Park regional. Gloria Stoltz, Morgan Poile and Hannah Gross added 2 hits each for the Royals.

ACC 15, IMSA 0: Izzy Hernandez allowed just 2 hits with 8 strikeouts and no walks as Aurora Central (12-13) won this opening round game of the Class 3A Kaneland regional. Leading the offense for the Chargers (12-13) were Altheia Valazquez (3 hits, 2 RBI), Danielle Brown (2 hits, 3B, 3 RBI), Isabell Gonzalez (2B, RBI) and Hernandez (3 hits, 2 RBI). ACC will play Kaneland in the semifinals on Tuesday.

Boylan 7, St. Edward 2: Jessy Kramp had a home run and a triple for St. Edward (13-20) in its Class 3A Belvidere regional loss.

CL South 10, CL Central 0: In an opening round game of the Class 4A Hampshire regional, Chloe Skorija threw a 2-hitter with 4 strikeouts and 2 walks for the Gators (17-13). Emily Sulikowski had 2 hits with a home run and 3 RBI to lead the Crystal Lake South offense while Brittany Baker (2B, 3 RBI), Carly Chovanec (2 hits, RBI) and Christina Toniolo (2 hits, 2B) also contributed. The Gators take on Barrington in the semifinals on Tuesday.

Hampshire 11, South Elgin 10: In a nonconference game, Delaney Rummell had 2 triples and a double for Hampshire (23-10). Peyton DeChant added 2 hits with a double and 3 RBI for the Whip-Purs and Morgan Haefling had a triple. GraceAnne Aldred had a home run, double and 3 RBI for South Elgin (17-14) while Alissa Hargett added 2 hits with a triple. Bri Pena, Mariah Spivey (2 hits) and McKayla Timmons (2 hits, RBI) each had doubles for the Storm.
