Girls soccer: Huntley takes regional; Aurora CC falls in 1A sectional

Huntley's girls soccer team won its 11th straight regional championship Friday, defeating host Harlem 3-0 in Machesney Park.

The Red Raiders (9-7-2) will host a Class 3A sectional and play Cary-Grove on Tuesday in the semifinals.

After a scoreless first half, Tayah Owens scored in the 45th minute off an assist from Brenna Keegan to give Huntley a 1-0 lead. Braidy Ceh assisted Alyssa Xanos in the 71st minute before Taylor Kaufman fed Owens for the final goal in the 78th minute.

Abbey Brown made 2 saves in goal to post the shutout.

Chicago U-High 2, ACC 0: Aurora Central Catholic was denied an opportunity to reach a Class 1A supersectional after University High downed the Chargers 2-0 Friday at Marine Leadership Academy in Chicago. Had ACC (14-5-2) come away with a win it would've meant its second Elite Eight appearance in 3 years. U-High put forth goals in each half, including one late as goalkeeper Alex Montalbano totaled 8 saves. The Chargers were without Anna Dudziak, an outside mid and vital part of ACC's attack, who was injured during Wednesday's win over Cristo Rey Jesuit.

"She really helps connect and brings the ball up to our forwards and that was something we were missing especially up the line," Chargers coach Kristy Kane said. "But the fact that we made it this far - we could've beat this team and there were things just out of our control and then the way we played, we didn't - it's quite an accomplishment and to make it to supers two years ago after never won a regional ever, we're definitely going in the right direction."
