Softball: Antioch clinches conference crown
Piper Foote, Carlie Gaylord and Megan Lawrence all homered, and Antioch beat host Grayslake North 16-5 to clinch the Northern Lake County Conference softball championship Thursday.
Antioch improved to 23-7 and finished 12-2 in the NLCC.
Foote and Lawrence both finished 3-for-5 with 2 RBI to lead a 17-hit attack. Jill Foote, Ashley Stephens, Gaylord and Annie Wagner (2 RBI) each had 2 hits. The Sequoits got doubles from Jill Foote, Stephens, Lawrence and Jackalyn Geraty.
Hannah Cook pitched 3⅔ scoreless innings in relief to earn the win.
Grayslake North (5-9 NLCC) got home runs from Grace Brown and Jenna Pozezinski. Pozezinski finished 3-for-3 and also doubled twice.
Libertyville 7, Evanston 6: With 2 stolen bases, Kenzie Rother broke Libertyville's single-season stolen base record and now has 31 stolen bases. She pushed Libertyville to the nonconference win and a 26-5 record on the season.
Winning pitcher Hannah Heraty upped her record to 22-5 with just 1 walk in three innings.
Lauren Heraty drove in the winning run while Sam Hilldale had 2 hits and Lyndsey Lyon smacked a home run and drove in 3 runs.
Grant 14, Round Lake 4: Erin Bengston hit her 20th home run of the season, and the Bulldogs wrapped up Northern Lake County action with a five-inning win.
Bengston and Megan Mitchell both finished 2-for-3 with 2 RBI, Megan Chapman was 2-for-4, and Taylor Hood went 2-for-2. Madeline Quinn (triple) and Jaylee Pfau (double) also had extra-base hits for Grant (23-9, 8-6), which finished with 12 total hits.
For Round Lake, which finished with 10 hits, Sydney Verastegui had 3 hits and Vanessa Ralph had 2 hits.
Grayslake Central 16, Wauconda 4: Grayslake Central pounded out 15 hits and scored 6 runs in the seventh inning to put the game away.
Lindsay Brust smacked a grand slam home run and drove in 4 runs. Brooke Heraty and Reagen Radke finished with 3 hits apiece while Nicole Warren, Morgan Smigielski, Nicole Burger and Elisa Koshy each had 2 hits.
Burger and Koshy each homered.
Radke was the winning pitcher. She rolled up 13 strikeouts over seven innings.
For Wauconda, Mallory Carver had 2 home runs.
Mundelein 11, Vernon Hills 3: Mundelein got the nonconference win.
