Boys volleyball: Warren wins at BG

Thanks to 9 kills from Kyle Wells, visiting Warren swept Buffalo Grove, 25-18, 25-17 on Thursday in a nonconference boys volleyball matchup.

Warren is now 21-14 on the season.

Setter Ian Schilling racked up 21 assists and Jaxon Bongratz finished with 7 digs while Matt Daniel and Caden Fox each had 6 digs for Warren.

Buffalo Grove was the second-place finisher this year in the Mid-Suburban East.

Highland Park d. Vernon Hills: The host Cougars dropped a 25-19, 25-19 decision in falling to 16-19 overall and 5-5 in Central Suburban League play.

Derrick Jones paced Vernon Hills with 7 kills on 12-for-12 hitting. Other key contributors included Jake Fiarrito (15 assists on 49-for-50 setting, 2 blocks), Sammy Adkisson (12 digs) and Jake Adkisson and Drake DeBoer (4 kills apiece).

Palatine d. Stevenson: The visiting Pirates earned a 25-23, 14-25, 25-16 in nonconference play.

Top Patriots performances came from Grant Maleski (14 kills, 4 digs, 2 blocks), Haddon Kay (14 assists), Danny Orlov (4 digs) and Sudhish Gogula (6 kills).

Libertyville d. Zion-Benton: On Wednesday, Libertyville swept Zion-Benton 25-18, 25-17 to finish 7-0 in North Suburban Conference play.

It's the first time in program history the Wildcats went undefeated in conference play, and it's the first conference title for Libertyville since 2005.

At 33-2, this also is the best regular season record in the history of Libertyville boys volleyball.

"I'm really proud of all the hard work these kids have put into the last four seasons," Libertyville coach Jennifer Smith said. "They've really achieved their goals. I don't think anyone works as hard as these kids do, day in and day out."

Against Zion-Benton, Colin Hawkinson had 9 kills while Shane Feiereisel added 6 kills and 5 blocks and Brendan Cook had 6 kills.

Sam Kharasch led the defense with 11 digs and setter Ryan Hirschel had 17 assists.
