Softball: Big days offensively for Kaneland, Streamwood, Huntley

Kaneland put the finishing touches on its Northern Illinois Big XII East title Tuesday with a 19-7 win at DeKalb.

The Knights (21-12-2, 12-2) pounded 24 hits in just 5 innings. Eight players had at least 2 hits: Morgan Weber (2-4, 4 runs), Donatela Sommesi (4-4, HR, 5 runs, 4 RBI), Lexi Abruzzo (5-5, 3 runs, 3 RBI), Hannah Theobald (4-5, 3 RBI), Aly Jesionowski (2-5), Maddy Wheatley (2-4, 3 RBI), Katie Kurzrock (2-4, 2 runs) and Hailey Roach (3-4, 2 runs).

Streamwood 10, Elgin 0: In a preview of next week's regional opener, the Sabres (11-13) got big days from Rebecca Daley (2-3, 3 RBI), Becky Roncone (2-4, RBI) and Taylyr Crocilla (1-2, 3 runs) to beat the Maroons. Ariana Wolfard pitched the final 4 innings, giving up just 2 hits while striking out five.

St. Charles East 15, Larkin 0: Krista Sbarra earned the win for the Saints (26-6, 13-4), holding the Royals to 2 hits while striking out five. She also had a strong game at the plate with a home run and 2 RBI. Rylee Stout (4-5, 3 runs), Sarah Kreiner (2-4, 3 runs), Paige Ligocki (3-5, 3 RBI), Sara Campagna (2-3, 2 RBI) and Megan Daly (2-3, 2 RBI) all had at least 2 hits.

West Aurora 7, West Chicago 0: Hannah Beatus tossed a 1-hit shutout, striking out 14 and walking one. Faith Pokryfke, Grace Hunger, Sophia Delgado, Kallie Rundle and Payton Lundberg all had 2 hits, and Sarah Hansen and Delgado both drove in 2 runs for the Blackhawks (26-7, 14-2) in the Upstate Eight Conference Valley Division win.

South Elgin 9, Glenbard East 7: Geneva Pollman, McKayla Timmons, Haley Szubert and Bri Peña all had 2 hits helping the Storm (15-12, 9-5) pick up an Upstate Eight Conference Valley Division win.

Huntley 8, Antioch 3: The Red Raiders (26-6) won the nonconference game over the 22-6 Sequoits behind home runs from Teagan O'Rilley (2-4, 2 RBI) and Sofia Tenuta. Tiffany Giese, the winning pitcher with 8 strikeouts, went 2-for-4, Rylie Porretto was 2-for-4 with 2 RBI, and Autumn Kasal and Taylor Pacana also had 2 hits.

Crystal Lake South 17, Cary-Grove 15: Emily Sulikowski and Christina Toniolo smashed home runs for the Gators (15-13) in Fox Valley Conference action. Sulikowski drove in 4 runs as did Christina Toniolo, and Carly Chovanec had 4 hits. Kelly Johnson had 4 hits for the Trojans.

Pecatonica 11, Westminster Christian 6: The Warriors (9-9-1) saw their season come to an end in the Class 1A Ashton-Franklin Center regional. Kristen Mason and Rachel Schmitt both had 3 hits, Maggie Jezek and Sarah Schmitt had 2 hits, and Drew Randazzo drove in 2 runs.
