Softball: St. Charles East shuts out Naperville North

St. Charles East bounced back from a loss to St. Charles North with a convincing 18-0 win over Naperville North on Saturday.

Seven different players had at least 2 hits for the Saints (21-5): Maddie Candre (2-5, 3 runs), Sarah Kreiner (2-5, 2 runs, 5 RBI), Rylee Stout (3-3, 2 runs, 3 RBI), Krista Sbarra (2-2, 2 RBI), Sara Campagna (3-5, 3 runs), Megan Daly (2-4, 3 runs) and Alyssa Thurman (3-4, 3 runs, 3 RBI). Delaney Devor and Sbarra combined for the shutout.

West Aurora splits: The Blackhawks (24-6) split a doubleheader with Waubonsie Valley on Saturday, winning 7-6 after losing 5-0. Hannah Beatus was the hard-luck loser, allowing just 1 earned run while striking out 13 and walking three. The Blackhawks managed just 4 hits. Payton Lundberg followed by striking out 14 to offset 6 walks and 6 runs. She went 2-for-4 with 3 RBI, Grace Hunger was 2-for-3 with 2 runs and 2 RBI, and Sarah Hansen was 2-for-3.

Dundee-Crown splits: The Chargers (15-11) scored 12 runs in both games Saturday, winning 12-2 and losing 16-12. In the win, Claire Weeks went 3-for-3 with 6 RBI, Andrea Conway scored 4 runs, Hannah Gestrich was 3-for-3 with 2 runs, Jessica McVicker went 3-for-3 with 2 runs, and Sydney Ruggles was 2-for-4 with 3 RBI. In the loss, Conway went 2-for-3 with 4 runs and 4 RBI.

Illiana Christian 11, Aurora Central Catholic 10: The Chargers (8-10) lost a wild 12-inning game Saturday. ACC led 3-1 in the seventh before Illiana scored twice to tie. Illiana scored 5 runs in the eighth to take an 8-3 lead, the Chargers scored five times in the bottom of the eighth to tie. Illiana took 9-8 and 10-9 leads in the ninth and 10th innings, both times the Chargers tied the game in their half. Alheia Valazquez and Danielle Brown both homered for ACC, and Izzy Hernandez went 3-for-6 with 4 RBI.
