Girls track and field: Scouting the MSL meet

When: Friday, field events 4:45 p.m.; track finals start at 5:45 p.m.

Where: Charles O. Feutz Field, Conant

Outlook: Prospect will be eyeing its eighth conference title and fourth in six years. But an upstart Wheeling squad will definitely push the Knights. Also keep an eye on Hersey and Barrington, both very talented teams. Prospect was a bit short-handed in defeating Wheeling by 7 points to win the MSL East title. But the Knights welcome back junior sprinter Annie Walsh, who holds the top seed in the 200 (25.69). Senior Jillian Hennig was limited to one event at the East division meet, but returns to the track on Friday and holds the top seed in the 100 high hurdles (16.04). Hennig will also contend in the shot put. Senior Brooke Wilson will be aiming for a distance double and holds the top seed in the 1,600 (4:59.62) and 3,200 (10:43.55). The South Carolina-bound senior will key the Knights in the distance events. Senior Autumn Stone enters the meet tied for the top mark in pole vault (10-6) with Palatine sophomore Jess Streepy. Prospect freshman Lia Skoufos has made quite an impression this season and is seeded second in the 400 (59.19) and third in the 800 (2:19.54). Wheeling has not won an MSL title since 1991, but the Wildcats offer a talented core of sophomores that will be looking to make its mark. Sophomore Alexis Knight is the defending MSL 400 champion and enters Friday's meet as the top seed (59.08). Sophomore Nicole Nguyen holds the top mark in the 300 low hurdles (47.84) and long jump (17-08), while senior Timber Terrell has the top mark in the triple jump (38-09). Junior Yailene Leon holds the third-best mark in the 400 (59.69). Those four will key the Wildcats sprint relays. Hersey also has made some noise this season, especially in the distance and jumps. Senior Sarah Harden, senior Hailey Bowes and sophomore Teagan Beckley pace the distance squad where the Huskies hold the top mark in the 3,200 relay (9:30), but a strong Schaumburg distance crew (9:32.62) will push for the lead. Huskies sophomore Alessia Olhava is seeded first the high jump (5-04), with senior Barbara Rydzewski holding the top mark in the discus (125-0). Barrington senior Kelsey McLaurin will have a busy night competing in the 100 and 200 and will also key the Fillies' 800 relay (1:45.45), which earned the top seed. Elk Grove senior Emily Stegmeier (2:14.66) holds the top mark in a loaded 800 field. Hoffman Estates sophomore Anna Miller and senior Katie Bonney will set the tone for Hawks in the 1,600 relay (4:03.93). Buffalo Grove junior Nya Carr is also looking for a big night; she has the top mark in the 100 (12.13) and the second-best mark in the 200 (25.78). Schaumburg senior Maya Bowens is top seed in the shot put (39-11.5).
