Baseball: St. Charles North's Skurka fires perfect game

Nick Skurka fired a five-innning perfect game Thursday to lead St. Charles North to a 12-0 Upstate Eight River baseball win over Elgin.

Skurka struck out 6 batters and got plenty of offensive help as the North Stars moved to 21-2 on the season and 16-1 in the UEC.

Sean Krueger had 3 hits and 3 RBI for SCN while Erik Larson added 2 hits with a double and 3 RBI. Also contributing were Sam Faith with a double and 2 RBI, Zach Mettetal with a double and Ralph Rhoades with 2 RBI.

Elgin slipped to 4-18 and 2-11 with the loss.

South Elgin 6, Bartlett 0: Dylan Wells tossed a 5-hitter with 3 strikeouts and 1 walk as South Elgin (14-3, 12-1) won this UEC Valley game. Bryant Diel had a home run for the Storm while Adam Walker added 2 hits and 3 RBI. Bartlett fell to 10-11, 5-7 with the loss.

West Aurora 2, East Aurora 1: Jacob Gray allowed just 5 hits with 5 strikeouts and 2 walks to lead West Aurora (6-16, 6-9) to a UEC Valley win. Josh Adam had a double for the Blackhawks.

Streamwood 6, St. Charles East 5: AJ Reyna had 2 hits including the game-winning single in the bottom of the eighth inning to lead Streamwood to the win in the first game of an Upstate Eight River doubleheader. Kyle Tiltges (2 RBI) homered for the Saints with Justin Galante and John Carroll adding doubles. Jesse Rico had a double for Streamwood and Chris Randel added 2 hits. Rico was the winning pitcher.

St. Charles East 11, Streamwood 0: In Game 2, Josh Soderstrom threw a 1-hitter for the Saints (18-67, 12-2). Justin Galante, Pat Griffin (2 hits, RBI) and Kyle Tiltges (2 RBI) each had doubles, John Carroll had 2 hits and 3 RBI and Cole Conn added 2 hits. Streamwood fell to 10-12, 5-11 with the loss.

Huntley 3, Hampshire 1: Huntley scored single runs in the sixth and seventh innings to come away with this Fox Valley Conference win. Noah Konie had 2 doubles for the Red Raiders (21-4, 12-2), Kamrin Hoffmann added 2 hits with a double, Matt Rodriguez had a double and Brad Model added 2 hits. Adam Smylie went 5 innings and allowed 5 hits with 2 strikeouts and no walks to earn the win. Konie picked up the save, allowing no hits with 3 strikeouts in 2 innings. Kevin Michaelsen had 3 hits for Hampshire (7-16-1, 2-14).

Cary-Grove 12, Jacobs 0: Matt McCumber threw a 2-hitter with 5 strikeouts and no walks to lead the Trojans (16-7, 11-6) to this FVC win. Zach Willis had 2 hits with a double and 3 RBI for Cary-Grove while Ryan Ignoffo (2 RBI), McCumber (3 hits, 2 RBI), Quinn Priester (3 hits) and Collin Walsh (2B, 3 RBI) also contributed. Jacobs fell to 13-10, 5-9 with the loss.

CL South 6, CL Central 0: Kyle Lang tossed a 1-hitter with 6 strikeouts and 3 walks as the Gators (22-1, 13-1) won in the FVC. Griffin Bright (3 hits, RBI) and Scott Skwarek (2 RBI) led the way offensively for Crystal Lake South.

Richmond-Burton 4, Burlington Central 3: Ryan Knowlton (2 hits, 3 RBI), David Lauber (2 hits, 2B) and Josh Noeska (2 hits) led the offense for Burlington Central (18-5, 8-2), which lost to Richmond for the second straight day in the Kishwaukee River Conference.

Kaneland 5, Morris 4: Preston Havis was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded in the bottom of the seventh inning to force home the winning run as Kaneland took this Northern Illinois Big XII East game. Jack Marshall had 3 hits with a double for the Knights (13-10, 6-4) while Luke Gomes (2 hits, RBI), Robbie Dudzinski (2 hits, 2B, RBI) and Josh Norman (2B, RBI) also contributed. Angel Acevedo picked up the win in relief.

Harvest Christian 8, Alden-Hebron 0: Zach Pawelek threw a 1-hitter with 11 strikeouts and 3 walks for Harvest (21-5, 10-2) in this Northeastern Athletic Conference win. Drew Lewis (2 hits, 2 RBI) and Joey Pepper (2 hits, 3 RBI) each had triples to lead the Lions' offense while Pawelek added 2 hits and an RBI.

St. Laurence 6, Marmion 3: In the Chicago Catholic League, Dillon Dilorio had 3 hits with a double and Brandon McPherson added 2 hits for Marmion (13-11, 9-6).
