Baseball: Harvest Christian nips Westminster Christian

Grant Young singled home Dayne Frederick with the eventual game-winning run in the bottom of the sixth inning Thursday night as Harvest Christian defeated rival Westminster Christian 6-5 in a Northeastern Athletic Conference baseball game at Judson University in Elgin.

Young had 2 hits with a triple and 2 RBI for the Lions (17-4, 8-1) while Brock Wilken (2 hits, RBI) and winning pitcher Zach Pawelek (2 hits, 2B) also contributed.

Pawelek allowed 6 hits with 6 strikeouts and 2 walks in a complete-game effort.

Kilian Vasica had a grand slam home run for Westminster (10-5, 8-3) and Mason Runkel added a double and an RBI.

Huntley 2, Cary-Grove 1: Kamrin Hoffmann squeezed home courtesy runner Joey Petryniec with the winning run in the bottom of the seventh inning as Huntley (17-4, 10-2) stayed one game behind Crystal Lake South in the Fox Valley Conference with this win. Adam Smylie had 3 hits for the Red Raiders. Noah Konie picked up the win in relief of Kyle Morgan, who allowed 3 hits with 5 strikeouts and 2 walks in 5⅓ innings. Mike Eleftheriou suffered the loss for Cary-Grove (14-7, 9-6).

CL South 10, Jacobs 0: Brian Fuentes (3 RBI) and Ryan Parquette (3 hits, 2 doubles, 4 RBI) each hit home runs for Crystal Lake South (20-1, 11-1) in its FVC win. Also contributing for the Gators were Griffin Bright (2 hits) and Brent Chubb (2 hits, RBI). Kyle Lang was the winning pitcher, allowing 5 hits with 7 strikeouts and 2 walks. Spencer Foulks had 2 hits for Jacobs (13-8, 5-7).

Glenbard East 3, Bartlett 0: Ben Fisher had a double for Bartlett (9-9, 4-4) in the Upstate Eight Valley.

Chicago Christian 3, ACC 0: Mac Doherty doubled for Aurora Central (14-6-1) in its Metro Suburban crossover loss.

Wheaton Academy 14, St. Edward 0: Jacob Lesh had 2 hits and Mike Lopez added a double for St. Edward (4-17, 3-11) in the Metro Suburban.
