Softball: Jacobs blanks Crystal Lake Central
Kerri Healy had 2 hits including a home run and 2 RBI and winning pitcher Savannah Svedman added 2 hits with a home run and 2 RBI as Jacobs downed Crystal Lake Central 6-0 Wednesday in Fox Valley Conference softball action.
Svedman allowed just 5 hits and had 5 strikeouts and 2 walks for the Golden Eagles (9-9, 4-5).
Gabby Silva added 2 RBI for Jacobs.
Hampshire 8, Prairie Ridge 5: Peyton DeChant had 3 hits including 2 home runs and 4 RBI and Delaney Rummell added 3 hits with a home run, 2 doubles and an RBI for Hampshire (13-7, 6-4) in its FVC win. Sarah Bowen and Morgan Haefling each had 2 hits and an RBI for the Whip-Purs. Emily Egger was the winning pitcher.
McHenry 5, Cary-Grove 3: Alina Krembuszewski and Emma Hill had 2 hits each for Cary-Grove (2-13, 2-7) in this FVC loss. Nicollette Richardi added a double for the Trojans and Kelly Johnson had 2 RBI.
South Elgin 15, West Chicago 9: GraceAnne Aldred had 2 hits with a home run, double and 3 RBI to lead South Elgin (10-10, 4-2) to an Upstate Eight Valley win. Also contributing for the Storm were Alissa Hargett (2 hits, 2B, RBI), Mariah Spivey (2B, 2 RBI), Alivia Doyle (2B), Bri Pena (2B), Haley Szubert (2B, RBI) and Brynn Warrick (2B, 2 RBI). Allison Kaiser was the winning pitcher.
Dundee-Crown 16, Marian Central 3: Andrea Conway had 3 hits with a home run and 5 RBI for the Chargers (12-7) in nonconference action. Hannah Gestrich (2B, 3B, RBI), Deanna Origer (2 hits, 2B, RBI), Claire Weeks (2 hits, 2B, 3 RBI), winning pitcher Sydney Ruggles (3 hits, 2 RBI), Jessica McVicker (3 RBI) and Megan Emerson (2 hits, RBI) also contributed. Ruggles struck out 8, walked 2 and allowed 4 hits in 5⅓ innings of relief.
ACC 16, St. Edward 4: Alheli Velazquez (2 doubles, 2 RBI) and Jessica Eallonardo (2 doubles, 4 RBI) led the Chargers (7-7, 5-2) to this Metro Suburban win. Winning pitcher Isabelle Gonzalez and Jessica Kling (2 RBI) added doubles for Aurora Central and Val Litrenta had 2 hits. Devyn Ernst had 2 hits for St. Edward (7-14,3-5) while Lindsey Mauritzen (2 hits, RBI) and Ashley Miller (RBI) each had doubles.
Rosary sweeps: Abby Young pitched a 5-hit shutout in Game 1 as Rosary defeated Regina 3-0. The Royals then completed the GCAC sweep with an 11-1 win in Game 2. Leading the offense for Rosary in the opener were Mikayla Cassidy (2 hits, 2B, RBI), Chloe Saltijeral (3B) and Anna VanGundy (2B). In Game 2, Riley McCue had 2 doubles and 4 RBI for the Royals (11-5, 7-0) while Xandria Olsen (2 RBI), VanGundy (2 hits), Krystal Cortes (2B, RBI), Saltijeral (2 hits, RBI) and Aubrey Fisher (2 hits, 2B) also contributed. Maura VanBogaert was the winning pitcher.
Montini 15, Aurora Christian 1: Grace Folino had 2 hits with a double for Aurora Christian (6-6) in this nonconference loss.
