Softball: Kaneland topples Sycamore

Aly Jesionowski scattered 5 hits and had 8 strikeouts with 1 walk Tuesday as Kaneland's softball team defeated Sycamore 5-1 in Northern Illinois Big XII East action.

Donatela Sommesi led the offense for the Knights (11-8, 5-2) with 3 hits, while Morgan Weber (2 hits, 2B), Lexi Abruzzo (RBI), Hannah Theobald (2 hits, RBI), Hailey Roach (2 hits, 2B, 2 RBI) and Maddy Wheatley (2 hits) also contributed.

St. Charles East 14, Streamwood 0: Maddie Candre had a home run, a double and 4 RBI as the Saints (17-3, 7-1) rolled to an Upstate Eight River win. Rylee Stout had 2 hits and an RBI for SCE, Jordan Hieber added 2 hits, Sarah Kreiner had 3 hits and 2 RBI, Hannah Cozzi had 2 hits and 2 RBI, Sara Campagna 2 RBI and Megan Daly 3 hits and 3 RBI. Delaney Devor was the winning pitcher, combining on a 3-hitter with Krista Sbarra. Streamwood fell to 8-8, 4-5.

West Aurora 13, South Elgin 1: Grace Hunger (3 RBI) and Kallie Rundle (3 RBI) each hit home runs for West Aurora (17-4, 8-0) in its UEC Valley win. Winning pitcher Hannah Beatus (5 hits, 7 Ks, 1 BB) added 3 hits and 2 RBI for the Blackhawks. Haley Szubert had 2 hits and Mariah Spivey added a double for South Elgin (9-10, 3-2).

St. Charles North 13, Elgin 0: Jillian Waslawski threw a 1-hitter with 13 strikeouts and 1 walk and added 2 hits and an RBI from the plate for the North Stars (9-5, 4-3) in their UEC River win. Also contributing to the SCN offense were Ashlyn Jozefowicz (2 RBI), Alyssa Eby (3 hits, 2 doubles, RBI), Allison Moberg (2 hits, 2B, 3 RBI), Maddie Webb (2 hits, 2B), Jessica Wilson (2 hits, RBI), Kelly Hannigan (RBI), Samantha Vaca (RBI) and Grace Sobeski (2 hits, 2 RBI).

Huntley 11, Prairie Ridge 5: Autumn Kasal had 3 hits with 2 doubles and an RBI as Huntley (15-4, 8-0) remained unbeaten in the Fox Valley Conference. Teagan O'Rilley added a home run and 2 RBI for the Red Raiders while Sophia Tenuta had 2 hits, Jackie Dorin 2 hits with a double and 2 RBI, Kendra Mitchell 3 hits and Rylie Porretto 2 hits and 2 RBI. Tiffany Giese (14-3) picked up the win, allowing 5 hits with 6 strikeouts and 1 walk.

CL South 8, Cary-Grove 6: Carly Chovanec had 3 hits with a double and 2 RBI for the Gators (13-6, 6-3) in their FVC win. Also contributing for Crystal Lake South were Skylar Olsen (2 hits, RBI), Brittany Baker (2 hits), Emily Sullikowski (RBI), winning pitcher Christina Toniolo (RBI) and Maddie Bush (2 hits, RBI). Alina Krembuszewski (3 hits, RBI), Katy Wierczorek (2 hits), Emma Hill (2 hits, 2B, 2 RBI), Taylor Langguth (2B, 2 RBI), Alyssa Gurgone (2B, RBI) and Nicollette Richardi (2 hits) led Cary-Grove (2-12, 2-6).

Hampshire 10, McHenry 6: Delaney Rummell had 3 hits including a double and a triple while Melissa Esparaza (2 RBI) and Gwen Malecke (2 hits, 3 RBI) each hit home runs to lead Hampshire (12-7, 5-4) to an FVC win. Peyton DeChant and Sarah Bowen added 2 hits each for the Whip-Purs. Jasmine Lopez was the winning pitcher.

Burlington Central 16, Johnsburg 3: Winning pitcher Julia Barnes (5 IP, 7 hits, 4 Ks, 2 BBs) hit 2 home runs while Kristina Ahlers added 3 hits including a home run and a double, Danielle Yurgil had 3 hits with 2 home runs and Maissie Rabe 2 hits and a home run to lead the Rockets (8-6, 5-1) to a Kishwaukee River win.

Aurora Christian 13, IMSA 1: Grace Folino (3B, 3 RBI), Millie Britt, Tori Henning, Callie Britt (2 RBI), Raeann Holloway and Madelyn Liptak (RBI) each had 2 hits for Aurora Christian (6-5, 5-1) in its Northeastern Athletic Conference win. Noelle Chaney allowed 6 hits with 9 strikeouts and 3 walks to earn the win.

Glenbard South 2, ACC 1: Glenbard South scored twice in the bottom of the seventh to upend Aurora Central in the Metro Suburban. Danielle Brown had 2 hits including a home run for ACC (6-7, 4-2). Hannah Baxter added 2 hits and Altheia Valazquez had a double. Brown suffered the loss despite allowing just 4 hits with 15 strikeouts and no walks.

Westminster Christian 5, South Beloit 0: Kristen Mason threw a 3-hitter with 6 strikeouts and no walks to lead Westminster (5-6-1, 5-2) to a NAC win. Drew Randazzo had 2 hits with a double and an RBI for the Warriors and Maggie Jezek added 2 hits.
