Boys volleyball: Fremd tops Palatine in 3

Visiting Palatine claimed the first set, but Fremd bounced back to eventually claim a boys volleyball victory Tuesday in Mid-Suburban West play.

Aaron Peterson came up with a match-best 16 for Fremd, which stayed 1 game back of Barrington in the divisional race after winning 21-25, 25-21, 25-23.

Martin Michalski had 12 kills on 23-for-23 hitting, and Jacob Peterson had 4 kills for the Vikings (11-6, 5-1).

Ben Cohen had a team-best 3 blocks for Fremd, Alex Wysocki racked up 30 digs and Jacob Peterson led the way with 21 assists.

Johnny O'Shea (11 kills) and Matt Cooper (10) paced Palatine's attack, and Ben Rinella had 21 assists along with 18-for-18 from the service line.

Hersey d. Rolling Meadows: The MSL East leaders stayed perfect within the division with a 25-13, 25-18 win at Rolling Meadows.

Top attackers for Hersey were Jake Mailloux (16-17, 12 kills) and Patrick O'Brien (14-15, 9 kills).

O'Brien also served up 3 aces and shared the team lead in blocks with Adrian Holubek with 3 each.

Justin Hong produced 13 digs, and setter Vince Reisel finished 40-for-40 with 24 assists.

Hersey improved to 17-2 overall and 6-0 in the East Division of the MSL.

Barrington d. Hoffman Estates: The Broncos protected their MSL West lead by earning a 25-13, 25-14 victory at Hoffman Estates.

Evan Carroll provided 17 setting assists, many of them to top hitters Gabe Hartke (8 kills) and Jacob Werner (7).

Stephen Wanca had a team-best 6 digs for Barrington and Sean Dolan came up with 2 blocks.

Top efforts for the Hawks came from Miguel Pineda (3 kills), Jaccamo Henslee (6-for-6 serving, ace, 3 assists) and Daniel Ham (5 digs).

Buffalo Grove d. Prospect: The Bison remain 1 game off the East Division-leading pace set by Hersey after a 27-25, 25-13 victory over the host Knights.

Ian Van Wazer had 5 kills, Danny Zickert 4 and Brian Franz 3 to help Buffalo Grove go to 14-10 overall and 5-1 in the East.

Wheeling d. Elk Grove: The host Wildcats won 25-17, 25-23 in an MSL East matchup.

Top performers for the Grenadiers included Kevin Braceros (20-for-23 hitting, 10 kills, 13 digs, 8-for-8 serving), Ed Gonzalez (16 assists, 3 aces) and Tim Varga (2 blocks).
