Softball: Jacobs knocks off Prairie Ridge

Savannah Svedman threw a 1-hitter with 7 strikeouts and 1 walk Friday to lead the Jacobs softball team to a 6-0 Fox Valley Conference win over Prairie Ridge.

Grace O'Malley led the offense for the Golden Eagles (8-5-1, 3-3) with 3 hits including a double and an RBI. Also contributing were Emily Pena (2 hits, 2B, 2 RBI) and Kayley Masching (3 hits, 2B).

Huntley 14, McHenry 4: Caitlin Brown (HR, 3 RBI), Rylie Porretto, Teagan O'Rilley (3B, RBI) and Kendra Mitchell (4 RBI) had 3 hits each to lead Huntley (11-4, 7-0) to this FVC win. Winning pitcher Tiffany Giese (11-3) added 2 hits with a double and an RBI for the Red Raiders while Autumn Kasal had 2 hits and 2 RBI.

Dundee-Crown 10, CL Central 5: Andrea Conway had 2 hits with a double and 3 RBI and winning pitcher Sydney Ruggles added 2 hits and 2 RBI for Dundee-Crown (8-6, 3-4) in its FVC win. Also contributing for the Chargers were Hannah Gestrich (2 hits, RBI), Deanna Origer (3 hits), Claire Weeks (3 hits), Cady English (2 hits) and Megan Emerson (2 RBI). In relief, Ruggles went 4⅓ innings and allowed 2 hits with 5 strikeouts and 1 walk.

CL South 11, Hampshire 10: Kyra Swartz singled home Maddie Bush with the game-winning run in the top of the eighth inning as Crystal Lake South (10-5, 4-3) won this FVC game. Emily Sullikowski had 3 hits with a home run and 5 RBI for the Gators while Carly Chovanec (2 hits, RBI), Sam Schetti (2 hits) and Lauren Schoen (2B) also contributed. Peyton DeChant had 3 hits for Hampshire (8-6, 3-3) while Delaney Rummell had a triple and an RBI, Morgan Haefling 2 hits and an RBI, Sarah Bowen a double and an RBI and Erin Doyle 2 hits and 2 RBI for the Whip-Purs.

Kaneland splits: Maddie Wheatley had a triple and 3 RBI and Hannah Theobald drove in 2 runs as Kaneland defeated Edwardsville 6-4 in the first game of the Washington tournament downstate. Aly Jesiownoski was the winning pitcher. The Knights (13-6-1) then lost their second game, 6-0 to top-ranked Barrington. Jesiownoski had a triple.

West Aurora 10, East Aurora 0: Gab Drager allowed 3 hits with 7 strikeouts and 1 walk to lead West Aurora (16-4, 6-0) to an Upstate Eight Valley win. Drager also had 2 doubles and an RBI while Shai Erdrich (2 hits) and Faith Pokryfke (3 hits, 2 RBI) also contributed for the Blackhawks.

St. Charles East 24, Elgin 2: The Stout sisters, Rylee and Maddy, combined for 8 hits including 4 home runs and 10 RBI for the Saints (15-3, 6-1) in their UEC River win. Rylee Stout had 3 hits with 2 homers, a double and 7 RBI while Maddy Stout added 5 hits with a double, 2 homers and 3 RBI. Paige Ligocki also homered and had 3 RBI for SCE while Sarah Kreiner (4 hits, 2 RBI), Hannah Cozzi (2 RBI) and Alyssa Thurman each had doubles.

Geneva 15, Evanston 0: Emily Viebrock threw a 1-hitter and Geneva (13-2) pounded out 18 hits to win the opening game of the Rolling Meadows tournament. Kaitlyn Plocinski had 4 hits and hit for the cycle for the Vikings while Katie Keller added 3 hits with a home run and 5 RBI. Molly Wrenn added 3 hits for Geneva.

Burlington Central 11, Woodstock North 2: Julia Barnes allowed 3 hits with 6 strikeouts and added 2 hits as the Rockets (7-6, 4-1) won this Kishwaukee River game. Kristina Ahlers had 2 hits with a triple and Sarah Schmitt added 3 hits for BC.
