Boys volleyball: Gorey pens Lake Zurich's winning story
Jake Gorey delivered 8 kills and 3 aces, and Lake Zurich's boys volleyball team defeated Warren 25-17, 25-20 in North Suburban Conference action Wednesday night.
Alex Krasowski and Bartosz Wielgos added 7 kills apiece for Lake Zurich (11-2, 3-0), and Jeff Carmody dished out 25 assists.
Stevenson d. Zion-Benton: Grant Maleski had 8 kills for the host Patriots, who won 25-19, 25-14 in a North Suburban match.
Austin Zhou served 5 aces for Stevenson (15-6, 3-0), while Leo Chen chipped in 4 kills and 3 aces. Matt Cliffer and Hudson Havenhill each had 3 kills.
Mundelein d. Waukegan: Linden Ewing's 7 kills led the Mustangs to a 26-24, 25-15 win in North Suburban action.
Marc Rey had 4 kills and 3 blocks for Mundelein (11-12, 1-2), while Abram Nazario and Martin Carrillo each had 3 kills.
Libertyville d. Lake Forest: Colin Hawkinson hammered 8 kills, Jack Stevens and Brendan Cook added seven apiece, and the Wildcats won 25-22, 25-13 in North Suburban action to improve to 12-1.
Ryan Hirschel lofted 21 assists, while Sam Kharasch notched 18 digs. Shane Feieriesel contributed 2 kills and 4 blocks, and Steve Donovan had 5 digs.
"A nice job by the boys tonight," Wildcats coach Jenny Smith said. "We are trying to focus on our side and balancing the offense, which is getting better. A really great job by our defense continuing rallies and winning the first-touch game."
